Great Depression DBQ

There were many downfalls in america’s economy, but there was one that vanquished them all, the great depression. Millions of people, rich or poor, were affected in different ways. Families searching in the trash for food, and farmers killing their sheep because they don’t make profit due to the price for shipping them. Those are two examples of many in which the great depression affected some. The first main cause of the great depression was economic reasoning. Document L states how there was a weak banking structure and the failure of one bank led to the failures of others. This is important because the people caused the the crash. Document G is about investors and stocks. It states how investors had to pay a fraction of the quoted price of any stock and the additional money was to supply the broker. This is important because when the broker was unable to supply money, they would be compelled to sell the stock in order to protect himself from the bank. This family cost $16 a week to feed and working from 7am- 6pm in the weaving room made $1.80 a day. This is important because it shows what life was like for some and how the great depression affected some families. Document J is about the advertisement of boats. One man paying $35,000 for a boat while another paying $10,000. This is important because it shows the different places and the wealth some people had less than a year after the great depression.
