Great Britain Was Home To Industrialization

1. Britain was home to industrialization because they had a combination of natural, economic and cultural resources throughout their country. Another reason that afforded England’s industrialization was that it was a small island. Because it was an island allowed it to have control of the waterways to reach domestic and foreign markets. Not only were they able to harness their resources, England encompassed many coal and iron mines that were used as the new source of power. One way this new source of power worked was demonstrated through the condensing steam engine made by James Watt. The steam engine was just one of the technological advances Britain had over continental Europe. Others include the flying shuttle, the spinning jenny, the spinning wool and the cotton gin, all of which were used by England and allowed their textile industry to flourish. One should also make mention of the fact that England became home to the first modern railway of this time and allowed for natural resources, manufactured goods and people to go across the country in a shorter amount of time making the country more connected. Due to the conditions caused by industrialization, the government began to make reforms and new laws to aid the situation. For example, the overcrowded city of Central Paris was almost completely redesigned to accommodate the influx of more people. The roads widened and neighborhoods gutted so that they could be rebuilt to not only make room, but also address the sewers and drains problem. Factory Acts were developed to regulate work hours. Another example of measures taken by society are the poor laws, which are intended to outline the conditions that make a person able to receive relief from the government.
