Graphic Violence In The Media

I believe, that the representation of graphic violence in the media has a negative impact on adolescent behavior. I understand the concerns that parents have. It already starts with the daily news. These days, the media shows us pictures from terror attacks and violence. For example, the 2015 attacks in Paris. The media showed us the graphic accounts of people getting shot and running for their lives. These pictures from terror attacks are already hard to process for adults. Children are surrounded by violent media, if it is in the news, in video games, or in movies, it effects their behavior and children get used to violence, it is also possible that children associate violence with fun.
First, these days’ children play often video games with a high potential of violence. In these games they fight their enemies with physical violence or armed force. When they kill their enemy they get rewarded and reach the next level in the game, but these games don’t teach the children the
Children spend a lot of time in front of the TV or computer, they see their superhero’s using violence and for that their idols earn a lot of respect. The idea, that it is cool to use violence against people is very dangerous. For example, on social media you can watch videos where young people film each other, while they are getting in fist fights with friends, or while they attack innocent people. These kind of videos get a lot of admiration from other young people.
I think it is very important that people don’t underestimate the influence that violence media has on children or adolescent. This kind of violence effects children’s behavior. Children get used to it and children can associate violence with fun.
