On May 17th, 2014, Admiral William “Bill” McRaven, gave one of the most memorable commencement speeches, entitled “10 Life Lessons”, to the graduating class of 2014 at the University of Texas at Austin. On that day in May, there were over 8,000 students graduating, not to mention the families and factuality of those graduating students in attendance as well. ADM. McRaven at the time was the 9th Commander of the Special Operations Command. He had spent over 35 years in the United States Navy as a SEAL Officer, and had attributed many great things to the United States. Such fine examples of his work range from the capture of Sadaam Hussien, to the raid on Osama Bin Laden’s compound, and many more. ADM. McRaven’s speech to the…

Yes, yes, yes Anita!!! This troubled world we live in idolizes materialist things and people more than worship God. You will see more people spending more time going to concerts than praying. Or even spending more money on their appearance than tithing. Luther’s reference to idolatry was truly on point. People are idolizing the “American dream” than the one who is the reason behind it all,…

By 9 o’clock the sweet aroma of ribs, burgers and hot dogs permeate the air. Friends, families and strangers alike tremble in the anticipation of Game Day. The assembly was very inspiring. Eric Bostick was trying to inspire us by not letting anything stop us from our dreams. Then how we should be leaders not followers. Trying to achieve for better even if you have literally nothing but, if you trying as hard and depending how bad you want it you will succeed. For example, when you live in small apartment with very little money but you want to go to college try being in sport or academic scholarship. It really just depend how hard you really want it. Then with school try to be a leader show students the right way to act such as, someone you have no clue but always wanted to get to know even if they’re not in your usual clique or squad whatever they call it now a days you shouldn’t let it stop…

The US Army values soldiers that are accountable for their actions. Being accountable means being dependable; arriving to work and appointments on time, meeting deadlines, being in the right place at the right time and doing the right thing at the right time. Morning formation is the most imprtant formation of the day. It is made to get accountability of everyone and to put out any information that needs to be addressed. Without having accountability there is no way of knowing where soldiers are or whats going on. Not only does accountability matter in formation, but it is also imperative to have accountability if all of your weapons and sensitive items.…

For the past 4 years, I’ve only dreamt of this moment. Graduating high school and leaving everything behind to create a new life. To explore the world, to discover the unknown, to discover myself. The time has come and I don’t think I could be more excited to take it all on, but Massabesic I want you to know I’ll never forget you. All of the sports events and pep-rallies, we won together and we lost together. We hugged and screamed and cried, we experienced suspense and pain and thrill. We did it all together. We reached a breaking point, but it was all worth it in the end, for we thrived and succeed. Our strong and unified Mustang Nation. I will never forget it or the people who got me to this point. Before I start with my speech, allow me to ask a very simple question. Have you guys ever complaint about your school, your teachers, or being a student? I bet almost 99.9% of you guys said yes. We actually complain a lot, over the smallest things and lack appreciation. And though this ceremony recognizes our efforts, it also recognizes and pays homage to the dedication of our parents and our teachers. We would not have been able to accomplish this much without their help. So today, in honor of all the students, thank you. You know, I never expected to be standing up here but here I am, giving this speech and probably doing a terrible job at it because if you couldn’t tell, I’m pretty nervous. But thanks to NAMS, it pushed me out of my comfort zone and onto this stage in front of all you wonderful people. Succeeding from middle school is no easy task, looking back it surprises me that I even made it this far. A famous author, Theodore Roosevelt, once said, “A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a collage education he may steal the whole rail road.” Even though we have a while to get a collage education, we’ve made it here, to the end of 8th grade. Just like a rail road the train has to be set on a good track, just like our education. So far for this 8th grade class, our tracks have been fantastic ever since we first started our journey. Our first stop was 6th grade. New building, new people, and it were a whole new environment. New fears emerged and I remember feeling like a fish out of the sea. The year went by and our next stop was 7th grade, which the teachers have been preparing us for. We came back much more confident than the year before. We looked down at the 6th graders and asked ourselves, “Were we that short just last year?” And by the end of 7th grade, we were on our way to 8th grade. The year started off at a sprint and it seems to have left many of us still trying to catch our breath but 8th grade is also the…

The army works under a lot of duress in an environment that is not only dangerous but also keeps changing. Thus, it is important that soldiers are adaptable, creative, and agile to survive in such an environment. Although agility, adaptability, and innovativeness can be achieved by experience, training and education of soldiers is critical in the creation of agile, adaptive, and creative soldiers (Grossman, 2001). Hence, governments must ensure soldiers are educated, trained, and developed to have the intellectual and physical capacity to study, understand and adapt to the prevailing security conditions (Grossman, 2001). Particularly important is the adequate training and education of army leaders and joint and interstate military…
