Graduation Speech: Just Dance
Remember the time we convinced the counselors at Purdue swim camp that we were twins? We started up the charade not long after we got there and kept it up for almost the whole week. Even though you aren’t my twin, you are the first person I would pick to be on my team, no matter what. You make it so there is never a dull moment in life. Our endless competitions and talks fill the day and sometimes go long into the night. My sister fiercely protects and stands up for the people she loves. She has to arrive to everything at least fifteen minutes early and everything has to be in a certain place and squeaky clean, which drives me insane. She has shaped me into the person I am today and I don’t know what I would do if she wasn’t a part of my life. …show more content…
The two of us have seriously created a contest for everything we do. This past winter break the two of us played “Just Dance” almost everyday to see who would come out victorious. She took it to a whole new level when the two of us got back home from swim practice, tired and sore. We pushed through the pain, neither one of us were willing to give up even though our legs could barely hold us up from the kicks we did at practice. Just Dance is not the only thing we compete over. Throughout the years the two of us have had eating contests of all kinds. There have been ones like who could eat the most pizza, or who could eat the bowl of ice cream the fastest without getting a brain freeze, or even who could go the longest without getting a drink after eating spicy …show more content…
Sometimes our contests last hours upon hours because of our pride. There is only one thing that I know my sister can beat me at without her even trying. That is hula hooping which is facile to her. The girl can seriously go on for hours and when we were younger, she would never let me forget it. One time, she hula hooped for a good ten to fifteen minutes while eating a bowl of ice cream without stopping. This just goes to show how stubborn my sister is. Once she starts something you can bet she will finish it. She is a total braggart and goes on and on after she has won. She finds nothing more satisfying than winning and wiping the floor with her opponents, as she likes to

We started with a game she made up, which was called “avoid the balls” which she came up within a second. The game rules are obviously avoid all of the basket, volley, and soccer balls and if the balls touch you three times, you're out! We managed to play this game for 30 minutes, but we were having so much fun that we forgot to keep track of the score. After that, we were extremely exhausted and we took a water break for 5 minutes. Then we switched to playing basketball. My sister is really good at basketball, so we basically had no chance of beating her so me and we decided to make it me and her against my sister.…

Even though we do these every practice, coming of a break is hard to get back into doing the conditioning especially for a fifth grader who isn’t use to doing this much work. It was absolute torture and it still is, but I understand why it is now. Going through my first and second season it got easier, I got stronger and doing the intense routines got easier over time. Even though the worst thing to ever hear is, “full out” which means going through the whole routine with all of the tumbling, stunts, jumps, and the whole dance portion. This is even worse when we already had to do it three times in a row and we are already exhausted. But when it comes time for competition, all she has done for us helps out so much, and we can be proud of how we…

Body image is much more than acceptance of our physical appearance: it is our mental picture of our bodies, thoughts, feelings, judgments, sensations, awareness, and behavior. On the other hand, self-esteem is to like or accept oneself a lot, and how you look as well as what you believe in. In a nationwide survey in “USA Weekend”, nearly two out of five teens said they would feel better about themselves if they lost weight (girls) or bulked up (boys). Another survey told us that seven out of ten felt either “somewhat satisfied” or “not at all satisfied” with their looks (Bellenir p.16). Beth Dalbey says that “Pageants perpetuate unrealistic beauty standards that make women insecure and cause them to seek out expensive beauty treatments/ surgeries” (Dalbey P.1 1D). She also told us the surprising fact that women on average spend about thirty billion dollars on diet schemes annually. For every child who derives any benefit from the competition of the pageants, hundreds of others suffer damage to their self-esteem and develop warped ideas about their bodies. These examples of self-esteem in both young girls and women give insight into the problem in our…

There was this one bright sunny morning when I saw a man with a white beard, wearing a blue check shirt, probably in his 80’s swinging on his rocking chair, sipping his hot ginger tea and a few biscuits. This is not what I saw but i noticed something else. I noticed, he was looking at the bunch of young children playing on the other side of the road. And guess what ?? not only this. Deep inside his heart he knew that he would not be able to witness this beautiful moment of watching his grandchild play in front of him only because he had a very few years with him.…

When I was younger, I remember talking to my parents about how badly I wanted a younger sibling. I wanted someone I could have fun with or someone I could boss around at times. My sister is someone I can take care of, someone I can learn from, someone I can be an example to, and someone I can love. I am very thankful that she is a part of me because I know without her I wouldn’t be who I am today. I learn from her that making good choices is one of the most important things in life, no matter the situation.…
