This book has opened my eyes about a number of certain things in my life. Throughout this journey from giving realistic scenarios to leading and giving steps to do in such a position, this was an overall great book. It taught me how to spot out all the “scorners” and “Mockers” throughout life. A scorner or a mocker is someone who is unwise and puts people down all the time. Most of the times they will have a terrible attitude about everyone and every little thing that comes their way. If you have one of these people on your hands, don't jump to conclusions right away, be slow to judge. Sometimes an individual will behave horribly or will express their feelings as such due to their actions, not because of something that happened to them. The…

Morality is concerned with the theory of right and wrong characteristics or good and bad behaviors; its role can shape an individual’s personality which can affect his or her call of action. It is only natural that we should have some kind of moral laws since our experiences are dwelled from our sense of duty and physical forces. It’s an aspect in humanity which helps them make rational decisions and it also serves as guidance for mere goodness. Our existence defines who we are as an individual because of our values that help us see past our wrongdoing and helps improve our future. This can be seen in Sophocles’ story of “Antigone,” Antigone’s character portrays a strong individual who is loyal and values her family more than the society. This tragic heroic story demonstrates the…

This would usually entail more death to come, and cycle of violence seemed to be endless until the gods stepped into the fray to resolve the conflict that the humans simplicity could not. While many could interpret the god’s actions as the law because as powerful beings, they…

The Odyssey is an epic poem full of morally ambiguous characters. Few people in the book live a moral life. Telemachus lies to his mother, Calypso seduces Odysseus, and Penelope claims to love Odysseus but continues to lead on her suitors and convinces them to give her gifts. Out of all the Homeric characters though, Odysseus is repeatedly shown, mainly due to his function as the protagonist, to be by far the most morally ambiguous character. Despite his heroic motives and highly intelligent qualities, Odysseus is still a deceptive character whose unwise decisions are what shapes The Odyssey into the tale that it is.…

Naivety and ignorance is shown constantly by Othello when he foolishly accepts Iago’s ‘proofs’ of Desdemona’s infidelity without question. He is so enraged and jealous at the notion of his wife sleeping with someone else that he looses his sense of judgement and rationality. This could be considered a relatively natural reaction to such a situation, but it ultimately shows a weakness in the human psyche. Again Othello shows poor judgement by not confronting Desdemona about these claims and instead contents himself with Iago’s word. He convinces himself that he is acting in Desdemona’s best interests and wrongfully assumes her to be the “cunning whore of Venice”.…
