They are also divided into four subspecies, which are western lowland gorilla, cross-river gorilla, eastern lowland gorilla, and mountain gorilla. They are herbivorous meaning they eat leaves and stems (Regenstein Center for Great Apes – Exhibit). They are found in tropical rain forest, mountain forest, and woodlands in Equatorial Africa. They are classified as an omnivore, their diet is mostly on fruits and leaves but they also eat animals such as pigs, baboons and other primates (Regenstein Center for Great Apes – Exhibit). Chimpanzees have a quadruped, terrestrial and arboreal locomotion. Based on the way they walk, it shows that they have a hind limb proportion. They also have grasping hands and feet just like other monkeys, but no sign of a tail. Their exhibit is mainly a huge chunk of ground, not much trees; they also have an exhibit outdoors. One habit that I noticed about chimpanzees is that they take their nest wherever they go. Furthermore, chimps are known to be good at using tools. (Regenstein Center for Great Apes – Exhibit) Unfortunately, there was no sign of tools in their exhibit. Lastly, a good way to determine the sex of a chimpanzee is their size and weight. Male chimpanzee weighs about 75-150 pounds while females weigh 50-100
