Gordie's Diary Entry
Dear diary,
Sorry I haven’t been writing lately, it’s just that I haven’t been able to think properly ever since Denny died. I just came back from finding the body and mum and dad haven’t even noticed that I left. Maybe it should have been me and not Denny. He was the better son. He did everything that dad wanted him to do, and he was cool about it. He played football and joined the army. Girls were always around him. God, why did he have to go! It should have been me!! There are so many things we could have done together if he was still here. He could have played football, gotten married and had a family. We would have seen each other all the time.
Ever since we found Ray Brower, I still can picture his face and mangled body. I can still see how his eyes were filled with sadness and fear. All I can think about now is why couldn’t we find him sooner, why couldn’t we save him? I feel so guilty, I never really talked to him or hung out when he was alive, I regret that.
On this journey, I had a chance to think properly, but also me and the boys’ had a chance to become even closer than before. We had our good times and bad times but we still stuck together. They made me feel like we were a family and they all understood what I was going through, especially Chris. Chris was the one who was always beside me when I felt alone and always had my back.
When we were on our way to find the dead body, I saw a dear, I was about to call the others but then I realised that the forest was showing something only to me and I thought I should keep it to myself and keep it my own secret. This adventure made me think about my life and wondering what will happen to us when we grow up. I have no idea what I would do without my best friends by my side.
Gordie.

It was going to be a short ride only about 4 hours altogether through the South Dakota mountains. About an hour into our ride, we reached the mountains and as soon as we did Brody, Eli, Maddy, and I rode our horses to the top of the mountains. When we reached the top of the mountains we got off our horses and looked out over the South Dakota scenery, it was a beautiful view. I have never seen a better view in my life. You could see so far since we were up so high in the air and when we looked down at Tommy and Cassie they looked like ants. After we took a few pictures we headed back down to Tommy and Cassie. We went a little further after we got down from the mountain and then we turned back and headed towards camp. We arrived back at camp we washed, fed, and watered the horses. When we were done with that stuff we made a fire and started carving on sticks for a competition we were having and then at about 11 we went to…

Now, I wake up on this soft patch of grass, I do not see anybody the first thing that I did was call out for Peter since he was on the plane also. I searched and searched but it seemed like hours go by and I then spotted someone he was in my class. He looked as scared as I felt, so I wave my hands around frantically so he can see me. We stay with each other until we found another boy and then another boy, so now in total, we had a group of 4 boys all around 6 and 7 years old. There was chaos in the group none of us knew what to do or where to go, some ok all us were on the brink tears if not full on crying.…

It's been over six months since Willie first came to live with me. I can't believe that he was the same thin and sickly-looking boy that I was obliged to take in for the war effort. Yes, he was a very sickly child and couldn't take the slightest bit of nutritious food. But the truth is, I quite enjoy having someone else around other then Sammy and watching him change into a boy that is full of self-confidence, healthy and most importantly, happy. It's been great seeing him mix with the other children here and of course Zach too. The first day he came back from school, knowing that he was upset because he wasn't in the same class as his friends, teaching him to write his name and telling him stories from the bible are some of the great memories I share with him. Just recently, I realised that is not just Willie that has been changing because I think I have too. When I found out that Willie liked to paint, I had gone into the crafts store to get him some paints and paper for his birthday present, it was the crafts store I had avoided for over 40 years because the memories of you are just too strong. That just shows how much Willie means to me. After all this, a letter came, it was from his mother saying that she's been ill and she wants him back for a while. I really don't understand, the boys mother hasn't written for 6 months, not mentioning that she didn't send anything for her own son's birthday. I'm really worried now, I know I can't hesitate now, after all the kid has his own mother and I have to follow his mother's wishes.…

Chris also discovered that he could make friendships with people that would be significant enough for them to consider him family. We saw this in the film with Ron who wanted to adopt Chris. This was also summed up by the last words Chris wrote which were “Happiness is only real when shared.” He had realised that although he enjoyed the solitude of the wild, sharing his joy with someone else was most important.…

It was October third a thursday night after our freshman football game. Lying in bed, not able to sleep, I hear the doorbell ring and parents going down stairs. Peaking my head around the corner to see who it could be at 11:03 pm. Just to see two state troopers standing in the doorway. My mind and heart automatically beginning to race, and my heart instantly dropping. To hear “I'm sorry to say but your son has been killed in a car accident in Ames Iowa”. A devastating night I will remember forever. With emotions being spilled and tears being shed it’s hard to stay strong for each other in that specific moment, but I know that I have to be there…

What a perfect time to return home in Camelot. Even though i do not have a permanent residence in which i can call my home, King Arthur's castle is the one place i can rely to be welcomed and treated as family. I refuse to complain, however after spending much of the year surveying the kingdom, i have grown quite tired. Only after arriving at the gigantic stone walls protecting the closest family i have, do i realize how much i missed being here. Upon entering, i am greeted with yells and shouts, applause and laughter as me and my fellow knights have survived long enough for another reunion. Voices overlap with,"Take a seat!", "Have a drink!", "Tell me the stories of your journies, it's been too long!", and soon enough my mind is clouded with pure happiness and the undying emotion of gratefullness. What better time to be home than for the holidays. Last year i was unable to enjoy this moment because lady Guinevere's mother was ill. King Arthur wanted me to accompany her on the journey to visit her. He would have gone of course but i assured him it was far too dangerous for him to leave, and what better hands to leave her in than my own? A week we traveled in horribly cold weather. Up rocky mountains and across large barren fields of ice we traveled. I remember during that bleak time, some scruffy purple tinted balls sparsely sprouted throughout the snow. They seemed to be the only thing to bring a smile to the ladies face. "Even beautiful things can sprout from the most harsh and brutal environment", i nodded understanding this was the sign of hope she needed. So on my way here, i decided to take a different route, only slightly out of the way. A few more hours was every bit worth the look on lady Guineveres face when i handed her several plucked snow flowers. I know eventually i will have to leave, and i await the challenges coming my way with great anticipation, for serving my king is the greatest honor. However, i do not deny that i wish nights like these never…

Phoebe always gave the nurses that visited me a terrific time, which ended up having the nurses take care of me like i was the president. She left her latest story on my bedside table. Hazel Weatherfield got shot in the leg, but still somehow managed to fend off a mob of gangsters with an empty revolver. Of course, I found that impossible. My mother eventually to see me, along with the Phoebe and D.B. We had a long talk, and I don't feel much like talking about it. I remember she started crying at one point. I got up and gave her a hug. D.B. and Phoebe joined in quick. It was the least phony thing you could imagine. I told her that everything would be fine, and that we were all here, Allie too. That made her smile. She looked me in the eyes then kissed me on the cheek. She was still crying, but I swear they were tears of joy. What troubled me though was that Dad wasn't there. He's never there for these rare moments. That worried me a little bit. I felt like I should have worried about it, or at least pretended to worry about it, but I didn’'t. Come to think of it, Dad is hardly on my mind nowadays. He's on my mind even less that he used to be when we were normally together, and that was pretty low. Don't ask me why, because I can't explain…

Some nights I dream about Michael. He’s coming home from college for christmas break and he’s brought a girl with him. Our family is sitting at the dinner table and he’s giving my sister’s new boyfriend a hard time. He’s sitting in the audience, whooping and hollering as I walk across the stage and receive my diploma. Other times, he’s standing in a waiting room, introducing my sisters and me to his little girl. I dream about all of the moments my family and I never got to have with him and my heart breaks every single time. Michael has been gone for almost 16 years and yet he is still with me every day. I dream about him and what could have been; what should have been. Michael’s death teaches me something new almost every day.
