Good Will Hunting Essay
Good Will Hunting is about story of a prodigy genius named Will Hunting who is discovered when Professor Lambeau releases a difficult math for his class to solve. When he figures out that Will Hunting solved the problem, Professor Lambeau takes Will under his wing and prevents him from going to jail. In exchange, Will is under the supervision of Professor Lambeau while being forced into therapy. Will is a fool who wastes his potential. Sean Maguire, a therapist, tries to help Will but he’s facing his own difficulties too as he still hasn’t gotten over the passing of his wife. (Good) As the movie progresses, the two form a relationship and teach each other things that they both individually couldn’t learn on their own.

He is in disbelief when he found out Sean had skipped the World series to pursue Sean’s future wife. Will shoves Skylar away when she becomes persistent and Will’s past. Sean asks Will if he has a lover in life, someone who challenges him. He can’t answer Sean’s question. Ironically, Skylar also claims that Will is also living safe and isn’t being challenged. After his breakup, he pushes all the people trying to help him away and attempts to go back to his old life. Sean prevented Will from giving up. He was the one who believed in him from the start and never gave up on him. The turning point was when Will overhears Sean try and protect Will from being forced to meet the standards of his intelligence forced by Professor Lambeau. Sean’s genuine care and investment in Will allowed for him to finally get over his attachment disorder/fear of abandonment. Sean cared for Will like he was his own son.

In the end, only Sean and Will’s friends were able to get Will to change. Sean was able to relate with Will because both were abused by their parents and lived in the rough communities of South Boston. They started out as to ailing souls with a hole in one’s heart and they taught each other how to love again. Will was able to overcome to fear of losing people he loved because he never had love growing up. Sean was able to love again by traveling the world and get over the loss
