Good Health Comes From Within
“Good health comes from within. External treatments alone are not enough.” A Buddhist principle says that having good thoughts and doing fair actions we can purify our inner self. Undoubtedly, our mood directly affects our physical health and we have to find a way to control how much we let from this world influence us. It is a true fact that our good health depends very much on our state of being and that happens for a number of reasons. Firstly, a person who stays positive all the time has more chances to be healthy than a pessimistic one. If you are surrounded by happiness, joy and other feelings like these, you will attract only positive energy. But we all know that, these days, it is very difficult to show a smile all the time. The biggest problem is that, being so busy, we forget to take that precious time just for ourselves and relax. Secondly, in case of illness, it became obviously that there is no physical health without a good mental state. Healing is not only about treating your body, it is also about finding a balance which enables you to cure from inside out. As I see things, being a healthy person means to take care of both, mind and body. There is a strong connection between them which we can’t ignore.
To conclude, if we constantly do things for our soul, things which make us happy, as spending quality time with our love ones or enjoying a good book, our bodies will benefit from these pleasures too.

A study done by Professor Barbara Fredrickson proves that positive thinking is better for bodies and minds. Fredrickson states, “Positive emotions expand our awareness, our ability to take in more and to see the bigger picture is facilitated.” (Malcolm). Here, she’s basically saying that if positivity is used then more minds will be open to suggestions and will see even more opportunities. A positive mindset can help physical health as well. “Having more moments of that open mindset helps us connect with others and it helps us build our resilience and our physical health because we become more energetic.” (Malcolm). Fredrickson is telling us that negative thinking causes bodies to have less energy and makes people moody which is never satisfying. When a positive attitude is used, it can be easy to notice by others and they can then tell if someone is approachable. “With positive emotions, there is more of an easiness in the torso and I think that’s consequently because other people can pick up and let others know that you’re safe to approach.”(Malcolm). Being visibly kind and approachable makes others want to be kind back and could possibly make them think positively as well. Positive thinking is a major factor of mental health and can directly affect multiple things in…

People’s health can be affected by a positive attitude because if they are sad all the time they have little to look forward to in the future. Even doctors agree that people who look at the bright side of things could potentially survive longer. In fact, “Research has found a link between an upbeat mental state and improved health, including lower blood pressure, reduced risk for heart disease, healthier weight, better blood sugar levels, and longer life” (US Department of Health and Human Services). Having a positive attitude is good for people dealing with everyday life stressors. For people in more difficult situations, remaining optimistic can be even more beneficial. Other Experts disagree with the importance of positive thinking. For example, in “The Positive Power of Negative Thinking”, the author states, “Defensive Pessimism involves learning to tolerate negative emotions in order to get things done” (Norem). She says that positive thinking is actually a hinderance to actually dealing with problems. The concern being that action not thoughts change situations. Dr. Norem states that “Defensive pessimism involves learning to tolerate negative emotions in order to get things…

The article states that in today’s day and age, optimism has become a desirable characteristic, as well as an important part of human functioning. Optimism produces positive moods and serves as a motivator. In the article it states that “if a positive mood can be encouraged over period of time then access to positive emotions is inevitable and experiencing positive illusions can become a natural occurrence”. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as a state of well-being in which the individual realized his or her own abilities, they can cope with the normal stresses of life, and they can work productively, and are able to make a contribution to his or her community. Psychologists treat optimism as a cognitive characteristic (ex. Information processing, conceptual resources, perceptual skills, language learning, and other brain development). The importance of maintaining good mental health is crucial to living a long and healthy life. Personal health and wellness goes well beyond an absence of major mental illnesses or psychological disorders. Personal wellness involves the ability to enjoy life, to enjoy the present moment without worrying excessively about the future, having a healthy balance between work, recreation, family, and hobbies, and having the ability to deal with stress without becoming pessimistic, angry, or defeated. The mood that is experienced can influence the way an individual views his or her life. The way we process information can be altered depending on the mood being experienced, which in turn can affect our thoughts (Smith and Crabb, 2000). Positive emotion is related to longevity (Danner, Snowden, and Friesen, 2001). When people experience a positive feelings, their immunity increases and their bodies become more capable of…

Health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of a living being.Personal health depends partially on the active, passive, and assisted cues people observe and adopt about their own health. These include personal actions for preventing or minimizing the effects of a disease, usually a chronic condition, through integrative care. They also include personal hygiene practices to prevent infection and illness, such as bathing and washing hands with soap; brushing and flossing teeth; storing, preparing and handling food safely; and many others. The information gleaned from personal observations of daily living - such as about sleep patterns, exercise behavior, nutritional intake, and environmental features -may be used to inform personal decisions and actions, as well as clinical decisions and treatment plans. Personal health also depends partially on the social structure of a person's life. The maintenance of strong social relationships, volunteering, and other social activities have been linked to positive mental health and even increased longevity. In conclusion it should be included that, in order to be healthy every single person is responsible for his or her physical condition. If people follows the rules and regulation and practice mental relaxation simultaneously, then probably they can lead a healthy life. Personally I believe, healthiness is not only related with the better physical condition, but also related with the better psychological condition as…

    Happiness Definition

Yet, happiness is all about a healthy lifestyle. As an illustration, negative emotions, like the ones mentioned above, sink people into a “thread mode” and keep them from developing a positive attitude. Julie Beck in the article, “How to Build a Happier Brain” categorizes people emotions into two categories. People that are constantly stressed, pushed, or rushed fall in to the “reactive mode” category. People in this mood cannot adopt a positive attitude. On the other hand, people who are calm, in peace with themselves, grateful of what they have belong in the “responsive mode.” As a result, people in this group will be able to focus well in their daily activities and adopt a positive attitude. Granted, people want to be in the “responsive mode” right? This so called state of mind just derives from a healthy lifestyle. As note by Dr. Hanson, “exercise is not only a good physical health factor, but also gives mental benefits.” For instance, regular exercise can be as powerful as antidepressants and no stress equals a happy life (or at least part of it). In addition, regular exercise promotes the growth of new neurons in the hippocampus. Dr. Hanson affirms that these neurons are involved in learning from life experiences, as well as learning how to put things into context, which means see things in the bigger picture. In a nutshell, happiness comprises a positive attitude, which…

The website “News in Health”reported, “Research has found a link between an upbeat mental state and improved health, including lower blood pressure, reduced risk for heart disease, healthier weight, better blood sugar levels, and longer life” (“News in Health”). If people can attempt to stay positive during times of conflict, it can help increase their lifespan, which they can then spread the word about the conflict they faced. This can help other people understand what those people faced during the time of conflict and what not to do. The staff from Mayo Clinic declared, “Indeed, some studies show that personality traits such as optimism and pessimism can affect many areas of your health and well-being” (Mayo Clinic Staff). When people have an optimistic attitude they can help others as well as themselves. If people have an optimistic attitude towards others, than that could help the others have an optimistic attitude, which could lead to better health in those people. Another statement the Mayo Clinic staff stated, “Health benefits that positive thinking may provide include: increased life span/lower rates of depression/lower levels of distress/greater resistance to the common cold/better psychological and physical well-being/better cardiovascular health and reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease/better coping skills during hardships and times of…
