Going into English 1301
In the beginning of the semester I was very scared and very nervous about this new step in my life, which is college; at the same time I just wanted to get it started, and then the time came by. I had bad times in my high school’s English class because since my first language is Spanish all I could do in my exams was pray to god .In my SAT and ACT I didn't get a pretty good grade in English, so I had to take this remedial class, But As a matter of fact I took this class as an advantage of getting into the “college essays life”.
At first, I thought that I wasn't going to learn anything, but at the end I found it amazing how this class helped me. I never thought I could write a four page essay but as the time was passing I didn't realize that I was improving in my writing. My first stage was my first challenge, I didn’t know how to start, but I put my headphones on and I started typing. The next day, I asked for help in The Writing center and they gave great advices that had to do with my organization. When I turned it in I couldn´t wait to get my teacher's responses, which also helped me a lot to see what I should’ve or should’ve not done . In my second stage the level of difficulty was raised up since we had to write more than 3 pages and that brought my attention higher. In stage 3 all the work I had to do was to organize my ideas for my next stage which was another research that gave me the ability of separating my topics. In stage 4 we had to make an investigation where I learned how to do primary research. And I had to Interview a person and that gave me a challenge of communicating with other people for my project. And finally stage 5 became to be a little easier since it was a reflection of all the work we had already done, it made me realize that I really improve in my compositions.
I worked really hard this semester because I wanted to start college with a good take off. In high school my disadvantage was my lack of maturity, But now that I’m in an upper level there are no choices left; either I raised my esteem or I would fail. I think that that’s another reason why I'm having a good time writing these essays. Sharing and expressing my own opinions is something that I couldn't have in high school, because there weren’t big challenges that would make us work really hard.
This semester has become a semester full of challenges, improvements, and successes. I can now make an essay with facility, make my points and get the readers comprehend my ideas. I definitely improve from where I was first. I had to brainstorm so I could get all my points together .I actually wrote short paragraphs in my paper so I wouldn’t forget later, and after that I would give a longer description about that same paragraph. What I really like at the end of every article is that we had to write a response which gave me a final understanding of what the article would talk about.
One of the most difficult challenge I had this semester was being able to read an article in a short amount of time .I separated the paragraphs so could get a better understanding of the lecture .Finding the audiences was the first and most important thing I learned in reading. I also learned to identify the main ideas of a topic, and I really enjoyed reading the articles since we shared our opinions in class.
Everything went easier when I started to recognize my own errors and then correct them by myself; I accomplished all the steps that I needed to understand the world of writing communication. I can call myself now an experienced writer, because I think I have all the requirements that writing, reading and learning needs. This class really helped me improve in all this three areas and I’m glad it did, because all this knowledge is going to benefit me for my future projects. What I also liked about this class was that I really was comfortable with the class and that helped me just be myself. When we discussed with the class about the topics, helped me realized that I wasn’t the only one who didn’t understand the articles. I think that if I had had an advanced class I wouldn’t have met all this people and it would’ve been harder for me to understand the class since everybody would’ve gone in their own pace, just like PreAp classes in high school.
In addition, I got to learn how to work in groups and share my opinions I think that it is going to help me somewhat with my future colleagues when I start working. This first semester of college has transformed everything about me .and made me realize that I just needed that strong push to be able to do it.
I remember that gave me a wonderful advice when I couldn’t read, he told me to convert all that effort that I put in all my sports into my academic work .What he meant by this is that when I ran in track I didn’t let my mind go negative, I would block it out of everything and just think that I was going to win, So the next time I would read or write something, I would block everything out and really focus in giving my best. Since I´m not in high school, everything that I did I´m doing it with the double of effort that I used to give before.

Each year, my English teachers would give various essays, and every time the whole class had no clue what to write. Everyone would all stare at the computer screen blankly, and ponder as to where to start. However, once an idea sparks, the first sentence turns into a paragraph then it finally becomes pages long. Everyone can stare at the screen forever, but the essay will not be done unless you start writing, just like college, and life. However, life will continue whether the first step is taken or not. I respect every once opinions and am happy that I took them as a good knowledge gained. I just wish I would have taken a class like this sooner! As a refugee growing up, I did not had much hope of accomplishing anything in life, let alone go to college. I have had to overcome many obstacles in life to get to where I am today. When I got accepted to Cleveland state university, I was so excited for being for first one in the family to attend a university. Since I only knew little about what to expect on college, I made some mistakes in my first semester, but I have learnt from those mistakes. English 214 has been a rollercoaster with its ups and downs, but it has taught me so much more than what I have learned my previous years of writing all put together. This course has challenged my thoughts and forced me into putting much more effort than any other class has needed, but at the end of the day it is all worth it. From learning about having a strong ethos, good paragraph structure, including frosting, and revision, revision, revision, this has slowly shaped me into becoming a better writer by putting more thought into my writing instead of just rushing through it.…

    First Day at College

    • 609 Words

My first day at College Sahara. My first day at college is a memorable day in my life. I had been earnestly waiting for that day for a long time, because I heard many things about college education from my elder brother and neighbors who were college students. I started feeling that they had the advantage of moving about with an air of superiority. At last the long-sought day came and it was the 20th of July, 2002. A new pulsation began to urge me since morning to start for the place where the college stands. So, it was quite early when I reached the college. I was loitering hither and thither until I met a friend. He advised me to take down the routine which was displayed in the notice board. He showed me the notice board. I went there and took down the routine. It was the first thing that I did on my first day at college. I started to experience that the system in the college was different from what I was accustomed to in the school. With the ringing of the bell announcing the end of a period, the students changed class-rooms unlike in a school where rooms were fixed for different classes. The professors looked comparatively grave and composed and not grim and frightening like school teachers. The students behaved with chastening politeness. Even the menial staff appeared relatively refined and cultured in their dealings. I did not know before that roll-call was done in each period. All that, in fact, gave me a new kind of experience. On that day I had three classes, scheduled for the third, fifth and sixth periods. In the third period I had English. The Professor came, called over the rolls; told us a few words of welcome and then focused on the importance of learning English. In the fifth period we had the professor of Math. I enjoyed the class very much, while in the sixth period, the professor of Logic and Philosophy gave us an introductory talk on Deductive logic. All teachers were past masters in their respective subjects and I felt proud to have become…

    My First Day at College

    • 682 Words
    • 3 Pages

College life is a life of freedom. I remember my first day at college. I had looked forward to this day from my school days. Life at college meant for me a new life. I was no more a young boy but a young man. When I entered my college for the first day, I looked around with a mixed feeling of confusion and joy. The stately building with massive pillars made a deep impression on my mind. I was puzzled as I was not used to the ‘college-ways’ of things. The students in batches were moving up and down the corridors for their classes. The professors were coming smilingly and exchanging greetings with the students in a friendly manner. The first item on the routine was a lecture on English. I joined my class in room No. 51. It was S.ALIS’s English class, S.ALI being the initials for the professor’s name. The professor came with the attendance register. After finishing roll-call he delivered a short lecture on college-life. What impressed me most was the fluency with which he spoke. He advised us to take the maximum advantage of college-life. Consulting my day’s routine I found that the next period was an off-period. This gave me a chance to make a tour round the college premises. I noted with a sense of relief that I would no longer be confined to the same room for hours together as I used to be at school. The first year of college can be a new and exciting journey for many students. Students can also take on new experiences in their first year of college; it can also come with bumps along the way. As a student he or she must find a way to balance their new life as a college student and their transitions. There will be difficulty transitioning such as adapting to new the new environment, trying to make new friends and difficulty with class work. Adjusting to an environment that you’re not used to can be too much for some students. You have to get used to the new living arrangements and having a roommate. Having a roommate is a great college experience. College…
