Everyone is asked one question, at a very young age. That question is: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” There isn’t a time I can remember when an adult didn’t ask me this question. When I was six, I would respond with the usual movie star, fashion designer, or veterinarian. My answer would be said confidently, as at this age I walked through life as if it were no big deal. My answer occasionally changed to fit with my many childhood phases, but my view on the question stayed the same. When I was a child, I replied to this inquiry the same way everyone else did; I answered with an occupation. It took me years to discover my new approach to this question. My new response did not include my dream job, but how I saw myself in the future.…

The Pursuit of Happyness by Chris Gardner and Quincy Troupe entails the life story of Christopher Gardner. Like other books that movies are made from, The Pursuit of Happyness movie was very different than the book. In the movie, Gardner starts out in his late twenties; he lives with his wife, Linda, and his son Chris Gardner Jr., who was five-years-old at the beginning of the movie. The book starts out very differently; Gardner is just three-years-old and living in a foster home (Gardner and Troupe 15-16). By the end of the book, Gardner Jr. is barely four-years-old. The major difference between the book and the movie is that Gardner experiences physical, mental, and sexual abuse.…

recently read The Happiness Project, by Gretchen Rubin, a book filled with insightful tips and personal experiences from the author herself that helped guide me into a happier and healthier mental state. Rubin chronicles her adventures during the year she spent testing scientific research and popular culture lessons. She approached happiness from a different lens than I probably would have, which is why I liked it so much.…

A wise person once told me to “find a career and I will never be without a job.” I took that statement and ran with it! My freshman year everyone was motivating and questioning me on my future and what I wanted to do with. It started off as a counselor until I realized I do not necessarily BASK listening to INCONSOLABLE stories all day! Next it was a meteorologist, but can’t we look outside and see that it's raining? Then it was a teacher, and for that one let's just everything isn't for everybody! I found myself becoming BEWILDERED and feeling DESOLATED because I had peeked my junior year; the year where everything is supposed to be VAST and ready to go, and I was still AMBIVALENT on what I wanted “in the real world” as I heard in the many EXPOUNDING lectures. It was not until the summer of my senior year that God had finally put it in my heart to become a Pediatric Nurse Advisor; to become this person that can ASSUAGE and ABATE people, to become the…

Most students graduate from high school knowing what they want to persuade in life and accomplish, many other students don’t have a clue about anything they want to do nor persuade so for example, in the article The Pink Floyd Night School by Mark Edmundson, he as many other students after graduating high school didn’t know what he was going to do or study as a career, basically he had no clue of what he wanted. Life experience brought him the knowledge of knowing what he wanted to do in his career life. Edmundson uses many life experiences, as well as vivid examples to expand his argument of why he thinks students should take time off of school and about a year to just relax and figure out what career exactly do they want.…

Watching the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" really opened my eyes, and how society can effect someone. The movie takes place in the 80s, where this African American, Chris Gardner, lost his father at a young age and promises his son to always be there for him. Chris sells these bone xray machines for a living and lately no one is buying them. Eventually Chris's car gets towed due to so many tickets. Chris eventually sells one and decides to move to a hotel since its cheaper, and he gets kicked out of the hotel, due to being so far behind on bills.…

Human beings can give up many things to achieve happiness, sometimes they could be only be beneficial to themselves and be harmful for others. In the book, Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, Macbeth shows how he can do wrongful deeds such as committing murder to achieve his own happiness. Only after killing Duncan does he realize that he might have done something wrong and unjustful for the people around him, but later he murders yet another friend to keep his own happiness while disturbing others. William Shakespeare makes a great example of how people can become darker to fulfil their happiness and desires. My goals for this class is that I want to understand more about how people feel about ethics and if they want to change them. If they want to change them, then why do they want to change them, and what would they change them to. My only fears are that maybe the instructor does not put enough information out about the assignments on what should be done. That even after I contact the instructor and ask questions that I believe will help clarify the assignment, I still will not understand the concept behind the assignment and how I should go about writing or completing it to get the full credit on the assignment.…

What does it mean to have a goal? For me, it means working hard at something in order to accomplish it. From the moment I started TKD, to now, my goal has always been a black belt. It seems crazy that it’s coming up so soon. To be a black is honestly, such an honor. It’s definitely not something that’s easy to get. No, you have to work at it and learn and grow. To be a black belt is such an accomplishment. Looking back to when I first joined, this is all I ever saw ahead. Goals are not always easy to accomplish. When it comes to TKD I’ve had to work so hard to get to where I am now. It is not something that just happens over night. It has taken me six years to reach my goal and I am so happy it is finally here.…

Life for me has been very interesting. I started off in the nursing field as a nursing assistant and patient care tech at 19 working my way through school both full-time and part-time until I finally graduated from Virginia State University with my Associate’s of Science Degree in Nursing. After accomplishing that goal I have reached somewhat of a plateau in my life I have so many short and long-term goals I want to accomplish both professionally and personally. Some of professional goals are, becoming a supervisor at my current job, obtaining my Advance Life Support Certification, obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, enlisting into the Navy Nurse Corps, becoming a Nurse Practitioner, and eventually one day becoming an Administrator of an Acute Care Facility. As well as having professional goals in life you should have personal goals. My short and long term-personal goals are; relocating to Chicago, Illinois, getting married, and having children. The typical American Dream. These goals are not far from my reach with self motivation and perseverance all of these goals can be accomplished.…
