Us History
November 10, 2014 In the film Glory the black people were treated badly, one examples is when they finally join the army and they start training. A couple of days later they find out that they need shoes, because there feet were bleeding from the training and not having the right equipment, and at the beginning the army said that they were short on supplies but it was all a lie they did not wanted to give shoes to the black troops. Another example is during training the officers would treat them bad in general almost like animals, because of their color, the black soldiers had to work harder. Another example is when the army promise them that they were going to get paid $13 a month, but just because they were black troops they ended up getting only $10 a month. These men were paid less, threatened with their lives, wrongfully treated, neglected of proper gear, and not allowed to reach their highest military rank, yet they still rose to every occasion to fight for the Union, to win their true freedom, and reunite a country that had kept the African-American people in the shadows.…

Since the United States was a crucial French ally in the war, the French did not want to irritate or alienate American troops and officers, or American public opinion, by treating black troops with too much fondness. Evidently, there must have been widespread reports that indicated that French troops and black American troops were getting along too well: “This indulgence and this familiarity [with blacks] are matters of grievous concern to the Americans”. If French troops were treating black American troops well, then some may have been led to believe that the French believed in racial equality, and that this notion would make the American government look bad, especially since the United States was supposedly an equality-affirming democracy. The memo exhorted that “every effort be made” to avoid embarrassing or irritating the United States and alienating American public opinion.…

For them, it was like nothing had really changed. The Great Migration that began during World War 1, continued as African Americans moved to northern cities to find jobs. But in most cases however, they still received lower pay than white workers. They also were restricted in the jobs that they were hired to work in. The Tuskegee Airman which were African American pilots who trained at the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama had still faced segregation. They were hassled and treated unfairly by their generals. President Truman put an order in place to finally desegregate the military in 1948. The main reason the military was desegregated was to raise President Truman's ratings for the upcoming election, although the military needed to be desegregated. The desegregation of the military meant the African American’s should receive the same recognition for achievements and officers should be allowed to enter the officer clubs. The men would still have to face the fact they would not be given the opportunity to use newer and up to date equipment. The men often had to make due with older equipment and would need to fight for the ability to receive recognition. Many of the men would make friendships that would last till their…

During World War 2 black citizens served in every branch of the military, but the military was strictly segregated. Black men were put into units that consisted entirely of black men, but their officers were usually white, because the conventional wisdom of the time, even as late as the 1940's, was that black people couldn't do anything right unless they were led by white people. Nevertheless, thousands of black men in uniform distinguished themselves in the fight to the death against Fascism, which is itself nearly synonymous with Racism.…

The slaves fought alongside their masters so that they could get human rights and freedoms enjoyed by other Americans. During this time, slavery was at peak, and most African Americans were under servitude and gross abuse of their rights (Matthews 369). Slaves imported from Africa and other parts of the world were sold to slave masters especially in the North.
