Globalization was defined by Giddens (1990) as the ‘intensification of worldwide social relations which link distant localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events occurring miles away and vice versa’. Other than that, globalization also refers to ‘all those processes by which the peoples of the world are incorporated into a single world society, global society’. (Martin Albrow, 1990). As a result of globalization, the whole world has become a single market; the companies have crossed the boundaries of their country of origin and opened their operations in other countries. In order to remain and compete in the market, more firms are starting to explore the global market. According to (Rosabeth Moss Kanter, 1995) ‘The world is becoming a global shopping mall in which ideas and products are available everywhere at the same time’. Globalization will happen and is happening to all countries including Malaysia, no matter its good or bad. Malaysia went through a lot of progress since the era of globalization. We've improved so much from the economic, politic, social and cultural point of view. Globalization also plays a big role in the changes within the hospitality industry. Globalization has created a challenge for the organization in terms of management of human resources. This is because of the different of culture, legal and business practice of the other countries. The Human Resource Management practice can be transfer from one country to another but there is some practices must be modified to become workable and some cannot be transferrable because it is more culture-specific. Other than disadvantage, globalization also has their advantage towards hospitality industry. According to the manager that we interviewed at Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Wan Mohamad Fadzil, there is only one Seri Pacific hotel which is they is not a chain hotel.
