As President Reagan’s term was coming to an end, the American public saw little need for change. Therefore, George Bush became elected and was determined to follow Reagan’s legacy. However, due to the recession Reagan started and Nixon’s Watergate Scandal, majority of people had little faith in their government and believed Bush’s promise to not create new taxes and make America a “kinder, gentler nation” was just an excuse to separate himself from Regan’s legacy. However, the people’s skepticism would be proven right as Bush would not only increase taxes in 1990, but he would also make some very questionable decisions with America’s foreign policy in the early 1990’s.…

“‘This shows who the ban really impacts: the world’s most vulnerable women and children who are fleeing terror,’ said Jennifer Sime, a senior vice president at the International Rescue Committee, a humanitarian organization focused on refugees. ‘America is turning away from its leadership role on refugee settlement, and its the refugees who are paying the price’” (Goldman). The United Nations did an assessment of children in all different countries to find out the ones in the greatest need of emergency international assistance, and they discovered that the top five nations of children in need were in Trump’s list of seven banned countries: Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen (Goldman). The same people in the United States that are preaching from their soap boxes about the importance of child health and welfare are turning their backs on entire nations of children need in critical conditions. Over 5.1 million children are displaced in Iraq, Somalia is described as a state of chronic humanitarian crisis, and Unicef, an organization working internationally advocating for children, says that Syria’s humanitarian crisis is equal to that of World War II (Goldman). Executive orders enable the President of the United States of America to enact a pseudo-law without the need of approval from Congress. Some presidents make more use of them than others. For example, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in the early 30's, took the most advantage of them due to the Great Depression. Similar to FDR, President Trump is making the most of his privilege in the White House, but in contrast to FDR's helping initiative, one of President Trump's executive orders were instituted on a discriminatory basis that benefits his many business ties.…

Donald Trump won his presidency over Hilary Clinton, winning the electoral vote but losing the popular vote by around 2.9 million votes. Knowing that the majority of Americans did not want Trump as President, it would make sense for Trump to handle the office with care, and work to gain the trust of the Americans who did not want him as their President. In the short 48 days since Trump has been President, it is safe to say that he does not care about the opinions of those who did not vote for him and those that did vote for him. He signs executive orders and appoints nominees without consideration. He makes every move based on his priorities, and not the rest of America.…
