Abstract

What is Global Competency? Why is it important? What issues are we going to discuss in this paper?

NOTE: Paper to have four sections:

ONE: a statement of the problem\issue that you plan to address in the paper.

TWO: This will be a review of the relevant literature related to your research problem\issue listed in Section one. You MUST have at least TEN! Academic references from academic journals for this review

THREE: Here you will engage in a creative analysis of how the literature explains or answers the problem\issue from Section ONE. It is ok to integrate this into section TWO. FOUR: This is the section in which you draw conclusions. Have your questions been answered? How have you contributed to a further understanding of the issues? What are the limitations of what you did? What needs to be done by others to advance our knowledge in the area?

Global Competency

Global Competency is a new buzzword that has come about as a result of the globalization of the Planet. The world has become flat. The era of mass communication has made the world a much smaller place in which to live, play and work. We now interact with people around the world on a daily basis. It is critical that we must change and become prepared or “Globally Competent”, or fall behind. So what is Global Competency? In an article entitled Global Competency: educating the world, Fernando M. Reimers states, "Global Competency comprises the knowledge and skills that help people understand the flat world in which they live, the skills to integrate across disciplinary domains to comprehend global affairs and events, and the intellect to create possibilities to address them. Global competency also includes fostering an attitude that makes it possible to interact

In my opinion, yes, it is ideal to process skills such as critical thinking, collaborating, and innovating, but they are not necessarily done in order to prepare to take on global challenges or to work with diverse individuals. The choice to develop these skills is significantly similar to physical exercise in this aspect—we don’t necessarily run, swim, or play basketball to become athletes, but instead, we often exercise because exercising is good for us, because it make us feel better, or simply because we want to—we learn to be a global citizen because of the same reasons, instead of because we must work with foreign people. In conclusion, despite it is true that everyone is global citizen, it is not necessarily true that everyone has the responsibility to be a citizen across…

Global education is an education perspective which arises from the fact that contemporary people live and interact in an increasingly globalised world. This makes it crucial for education to give learners the opportunity and competences to reflect and share their own point of view and role within a global, interconnected society, as well as to understand and discuss complex relationships of common social, ecological, political and economic issues, so as to derive new ways of thinking and acting. However, global education should not be presented as an approach that we may all accept uncritically, since we already know there are dilemmas, tensions, doubts and different perceptions in an education process when dealing with global issues.…
