Gladiolus: A Fictional Narrative
Waking up in the morning, I didn’t want to leave the bed. It felt nice to sleep in a bed. Taking a look at the time, it was about five in the morning. Stretching my arms and legs, I sat up and pulled the covers off and put my feet on the floor. Walking into the bathroom, I turned on the light and looked at my appearance, using my fingers to comb my hair out, I pulled the two pieces on the sides and on top and pulled half of my hair into a bun.
Coming out of my bathroom, I walked over to where I had laid my top and skirt at and slipped those on, along with my boots. From there, I left the room, I walked over to the boardwalk to wait for Gladiolus to wake up. It was a few minutes later I heard footsteps coming towards me, turning my head I see it was Gladiolus.

You’ve seen Noct, do it before haven’t you?” He questioned.
Nodding I held my sword the same way I’ve seen Noctis hold his when guarding. He pointed out that my wrist should be relaxed and in line with my forearm. Allowing my wrist to relax and gotten it to line up with my forearm, he nodded his head again in approval.
“Adjust the angel of your arm and joints, until you feel the weight of the weapon being taken by your shoulder.”
Having a bit of trouble with it, it took me sometime, after a while, I gotten it, and from there he moved on. He told me to cut down with my sword and not to wave my arm and move the entire blade. Following his words, I did just that I could see a grin forming on his face, I was slightly scared to know what that meant...
“Use a small movement from either the elbow or shoulder to move the centre of gravity of the sword. The sword will move in a nice, straight line.”
This is getting slightly harder…I thought it was going to be easy, but I guess not. To me it feels slightly different than what I feel like…I feel like who ever had trained me, trained me differently than how Gladiolus is training me right

Often the type of sword or emblem on the handle represented a knight and publicized his importance to European people. Each handle would be customized by the knight so that the grip would feel safe and secure. Also, hand guards extending perpendicular to the actual blade protected knights in combat as they prevented other weapons from sliding down the sword in attempt to cut the hand. Often the metal handle of the sword would also be covered in either leather or cloth to soften the grip of a knight. A supplement to the sword would be a dagger, which was a miniature sword or large double edged knife. This weapon would be used in the loss of a sword or if combat was so close and crowded that swords were to hard to swing and maneuver. Finally, a sheath or scabbard was a casing for a large sword or knife that protected the weapon from injuring anyone while not in use. A belt would be worn by knights and the sheath would be attached in a downward position from the hip. It often consisted of a leather interior and decorative metal outside that was to dull to injure…

After just a few hours of planning, Kenny broke into the house at just around 12 AM, breaking open a window and sneaking in. Walking into the living room, he confronted the man, who had woken up and drawn his blade just at the sound of glass breaking and clattering against the floor. Kenny drew his own katana and engaged the man, quickly realizing he would lose the fight just from the style of fighting his opponent was using. Easily outmatched, Kenny's attempt to parry a slice turned into a wound stretching across his shoulder, his own blade forcing the man to cut him. Kenny fell to the floor, and the man escorted him out with the wound as a warning. As soon as the gang found out he had been bested, he was cast out, his sword and other belongings stripped from him.…

Erroneous statements about the weight of Medieval and Renaissance swords are unfortunately common. It is an issue of the most habitual misinformation and misstatement. This should come as no surprise given the misrepresentation Medieval and Renaissance swordplay continually receives in popular media. Everywhere from television and movies to video games, historical European swords have been depicted as being cumbersome and displayed with wide, exaggerated movements. On a recent national television appearance on The History Channel, one respected academic and expert on medieval military technology even declared with conviction how 14th century swords were "heavy" sometimes weighing as much as "40 pounds" (!).…
