Girl In The Alaska Quotes
In Monica Heese's Girl in the Blue Coat, the main character, and narrator, states, "Most people would say I trade in the black market, the illicit underground exchange of goods. I prefer to think of myself as a finder. I find things"(Heese 8). Through this quote it leaves the reader wanting to obtain more information on the work the main character is doing. Most importantly, it leaves the reader wondering why. Why does this young girl have to trade things illegally through the black market? In the beginning of the book everything is very vague, especially on the type of work the main character, Hanneke, is doing. As readers, you are initially introduced into the view of Hanneke's first blackmarket job where she has to avoid German soldiers.

This story makes me think about how believing in yourself and working hard can basically help you achieve any goals you have in mind. Jake Cullen had stopped believing in himself for a brief period of time in the beginning of the book. He thought he had no chance of becoming the first string quarterback for Granger High. He kept getting down on himself for worthless thing like overthrowing a ball to Calvin, there #1 receiver, in one of Jake’s first practices. He continued to get down on himself until Coach Jessup, the offensive coordinator, helped him by having one-on-one sessions with Jake after practices. Coach Jessup would help him with his throws and tell him valuable things like “Be Jake Cullen, not Wyatt Cullen,” and “The #1 thing you need to remember is, as long as you believe in yourself, you can do anything.” After about a week or two into these practices with his coach, Jake had already changed, not only with his throws, but with his…

Writing the sounds Malala Yousafzai heard whilst she was shot is really interesting. You can take this quote in many ways. First, she could have written it this way because she relives it when she writes. Repeating the same sound over and over represents someone being affected by a traumatic experience. Second, she is explaining that instead of thinking of her death, her body was trying to find ways to avoid shock. It’s similar to when you have a panic attack, you try and focus on one object to calm you down. So when she wrote this, she wanted the reader to imagine the butcher’s chopping rather than the gun shot because it’s what she did. Third, she wants the reader to know she was conscious then she was shot but not fully aware. Either way,…

The act of theft is predominantly considered worldwide to be one of the most corrupt acts one can commit, it is even written in the Bible as the eighth commandment that one “shall not steal”. So it is particularly interesting when the act of theft is not used in a narrative not to show how iniquitous the villain is but rather to make a point about the protagonist of the story. Such is the case for Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief. In the book thief Zusak uses the motif of thievery to as an act of empowerment for Liesel. It is representative of how Lisel is trying to take control back of her life in a time where she feels she has lost all control of the world around her. The act of stealing books is also significant as this can represent her taking knowledge back from her oppressors who wish to destroy it. The act of stealing is never in the novel portrayed as a crime of any sort, rather the act of theft flourishes into an act of liberation for Liesel.…

Conteaza cine spune primul!
