GIfted hands is an inspirational story based on the life of Ben Carson written by himself. The book tells the story of Ben’s journey from the bottom of his grade five class in the ghetto of detroit to the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Carson goes through many obstacles in life including being made fun of by many of his classmates,a mightily temper and the hardest to conquer, thinking he is dumb. The film version directed by Thomas Carter and screen wrote by John Pielmeier is much shorter compared to the book, like many books that’ve been made into movies many parts are cut out or made more simple and easy to understand in a film. There are many differences and similarities in the book and the movie, the major ones are the introduction, stories in the book of the things Ben been through and Ben being in Australia the first year after graduating at Yale.

On the subject of the the similarities and differences of the book and movie one of the differences is that the introduction of the movie is eight to nine minutes long whereas the book is only two pages. The introduction in the movie only talks about that Dr.Carson is going to do a surgery where no one else has ever been successful doing it before, on the other hand the book starts with Dr.Carston doing the surgery and being successful. Next, the movie shows the conflict in Ben’s life right after the movie where he is made fun of in class and believes he is dumb. Where in the book theres two chapters explaining his early life before he is made fun of in class when he is 8. After these differences the introduction seems similar.
