Ghp Nominee Level Paper
Why I want to Attend GHP 2013 The Governor’s Honors Program has been a dream of mine ever since by brother, Dammy, went there. He would talk about it constantly while I listened intensively. Dammy spoke of the classes he had for technology, his roommate, and the fun classes and activities he got to do after he finished classes. He told me about the time he went swimming and the gym class he had. Dammy also spoke about the new people he met, his PA, and how much fun they had. His words encouraged me to try and make it to GHP. He has always been my role model and I try to follow in his footsteps, especially when he talks about the activity with excitement. The variety of GHP has drawn my attention greatly. When a former GHP student, Paul, talked about his experience it made me want to go more. He also spoke of the importance of ultimate Frisbee at GHP I remember how much Dammy played ultimate Frisbee when he came back home. Paul talked about the project he did for his major about plants and how to use the energy and the session he went to on how to make a wand. During the video that was shown at the meeting, the different types of people and their majors amazed me. The enormity of the campus, the many people to meet, and the many things to be done there were amazing. When Dammy got accepted into GHP, I thought about the major I would take. English has always been a good class for me. I am very skilled and am a natural according to some of my past teachers and my dad once said, “{You} have style and the power of words”. I once had this project to make a story similar to Anthem by Ayn Rand. We were only allowed to have three pages at the max and my rough draft was seven pages. I had to cut out many of the details and the dialogue. I have the motivation and skill to make it GHP. Writing has always been a fascination of mine since I was young. My dream has always been to be a writer. I spent some time writing almost every day about different things. The things I

Last summer, I endeavored a life changing experience. American Legion Buckeye Boys State is a leadership program. It is the best Boys State program in the nation. On top of this, it is among the top programs for leadership, growth, and is a meeting of the greatest minds of Ohio, and by proxy, of the nation. But it’s so much more than that. From Day One, the minute you step off the bus, it instantly becomes an incredible experience. Everyone, people who have never even met before, are shaking everyone else’s hands, introducing themselves, and campaigning for positions before anyone has even dropped their luggage off. It was breathtaking, truly, and it made me realize that I too had to step up. Naturally, I did just that. I started meeting people,…

Throughout my four years of high school, I have consistently pushed myself beyond my limits and comfort zones in attempt to discover my place in the world. I spent most of first two years discovering who I was as an individual, ultimately manifesting into inspiration for success. I grew out of “fitting in” and decided to turn my life and aspirations towards a greater direction; on this road of discovery, I separated myself from those who valued arrogance and indifference. “Nerd Squad” is what I am a part of today, which is why I am currently confident enough to apply for the National Honors Society Scholarship. I believe I have grown into a tenacious, sympathetic, and joyous young man that the entire school has seen develop, and I am honored…

I would like to begin by saying that I am honored to be a nominee for membership into the 2013 Senior Honor Society of York College of Pennsylvania. I take passion in my academic studies and my community involvement. The opportunity to be recognized for the impact I have made on my college and local community is truly flattering. After spending my first two years at Millersville University, I began my studies at York College in my third year of college as a junior. Living in Spring Grove, I made the decision to live at home, work a part-time job, and commute to York College. These factors are all things that could have impacted my campus-life involvement, but I was determined to not let these factors impact my college experience. I jumped head first into the York College Community and was accepted with open arms into whatever groups I wanted to become affiliated with on campus.…

My dream for the next four years is to achieve a Physician Assistant degree at St. John’s University. As I transition to college from high school, I understand how there is no one in the world besides myself to help me reach my goal and it will require hard work as well as motivation to reach that point. At times, I feel overwhelmed with the struggles that arise in achieving my degree, but that would not stop me from my main point in coming to this school. I am able to connect my experience to the experience the Nolan’s and my dad went through when it was their time to achieve their dreams. I find it to be very lucky to go to school in New York because I am already one step ahead of my game to fulfill my target since New York is the place where there are many opportunities for everyone. Hence, having a motivated outlook on life, everything that is impossible will be…

The four pillars of National Honors Society, scholarship, service, leadership, and character, have paved a path for me as a student and as a person. Scholarship has taught me to strive to be the best student I can be. I use scholarship to keep up with my school work and never give up when a class is hard. I always strive for the best grade I can get and I will stop at nothing until I reach my goal. I will continue to use scholarship as I go to college and pursue my dream as a pediatric dentist. I will study, I will learn, and I will never give up no matter what happens along the way. I use service when I volunteered to help my local private school. I was never asked to do so, but I felt as if I was giving back to a school that had done so much…

Once accepted to the Boy's State program I ran for and was ultimately elected Boy's State Treasurer. As the Boy's State Treasurer I spent a day shadowing the real Delaware State Treasurer whom I have remained in contact with to this day. During the five day experience I had a total of 10 hours of sleep due to staying up late to help others craft legislation and to ensure that said legislation was economically viable. Boy's State was by far the best program I have ever attended. I had the opportunity to meet other young, driven men from all across the state and get to develop friendships with them. At the end of Boy's State I was awarded a Good Citizen Citation by the American Legion. I also met State Senator Bryan Townsend whom I saw again when I delivered a speech about the benefits of GMOs at a Farm Bureau event. As a student I have maxed out the math courses at my school. Due to this I independent studied AP Calculus C over the summer through John Hopkins CTY online. During my senior year I will independent study Multi-Variable…

The Honors Program grabbed my attention because it’s for academically outstanding students and I am that student. Throughout my years of high school, I have taken Advanced Placement and Honors classes and have done very well in them. Being average is not okay for me, I want to do my best and reach my fullest potential in everything I do. I like being challenged mentally and that is exactly what the Honors Program will do for me. In the Honors Program I will be able to engage in social and cultural seminars that I know I will thoroughly enjoy. I have been a part of Diversity Club where different cultures come together to share ideas, exchange food, and get to know more about each others’ culture, so I have an idea of what seminars are like. I am a very outgoing person and I love to meet and interact with new people so through these seminars and projects I will be able to do that. I would also like to get a broader perspective on the world and throughout the many different projects, I will gain that. I read about the Honors Program and what will be done throughout the four years and I thought to myself that this is where I belong, I will fit right in. I want to accomplish many things that this program will allow me to and greatness is what I would like to aim for. The Honors Program at John Carroll University brings together one of the most gifted, diverse, and active groups of people not only on campus, but in the country and I would like to be a part of that, something…

Personally, I’ve always felt I was a decent writer in all aspects regarding research and personal narratives. Considering those are subjects that interest me and that I love to read about. I struggle the most when it comes to making my writing hold a deeper or hidden message when the topics I am told to write about don’t interest me. Having to do rhetorical analysis with old literature and having to explain the main idea was my number one struggle in AP language and composition senior year. But other than that I felt, throughout high school, I enjoyed writing and taking a majority of the writing classes my school had to offer, not only because it was required but because it was something that teachers and myself felt I did acceptable work.…

Since its establishment, the National Honor Society has been built upon the core values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Throughout the years, National Honor Society has upheld these pillars, and its outstanding club members strive to embody these values in every aspect of their lives. However, these four principles add up to become something much more over the course of National Honor Society’s lifetime -- its legacy. These four honorable tenets are what constitutes a legacy, and I wish to become an individual who represents all of these core values -- and more. I took PSEO classes for the first time this year, and it was a wonderful experience. I was able to engage with the professors and other students with similar interests, all while being academically challenged in a positive environment. Continuing my PSEO education at the University of Minnesota would further enrich my experience, as well as be a dream come true. Ever since my first college fair, I have dreamed about going to the U of M. When people ask me where I plan to go to college, I confidently tell them “I’m going to the University of Minnesota!” The school’s banner hangs proudly in my room, and I don the college apparel almost daily. Furthermore, in the summer of 2015, I attended the U of M Mock Trial Scholars program, and I became infatuated…
