In the article, “Are Colleges Worth the Price of Admission?” by Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus, the authors did research on several colleges around the country to see whether our investment on higher education is really worth the money that we pay for it. The authors believe that universities are the ones responsible for the doubling of tuition costs compared to what they used to be , and not fulfilling the most important objective to student’s which is: “to challenge the minds of young people” (180). In the article, Hacker and Dreifus outline some things they think would help improve some of the problems in the college system and a few universities that they like, and tell us why these schools have won their favor. Being an incoming freshman at Grambling State University, I’ve been able to see some of the issues universities can have from budget cuts, to problems with the G-men football team.…

Today, I am a graduate of CUNY Baruch College with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Operations Management. Although undeniably rewarding, the road to graduation was, to say the least, strenuous. When I began the pursuit of an undergraduate degree, I was determined on becoming an accountant. However, instead of solidifying my interest in this major, the demanding curriculum along with being employed full time took a toll on my GPA. As a result, I came to the realization that…

Upon entering my freshman year of college I recognized I was not fully prepared for the rigorous academic scheme provided at my school, Howard University. One of the main observations was my peers received educational training in Advanced Placement General Chemistry, Advanced Placement Organic Chemistry and even had the opportunity to attend actual college courses during his/her high school careers. Those classes were not an option for me through my high school. Soon I found myself falling into a pit of failure. Long hours of studying and tutoring only produced D’s, F’s and an occasional C on my Chemistry reports. I was thoroughly ready to quit. I still remember sitting in my professor’s office in tears when he informed me that my academic…

My interest in the media world started back when I was in 7th grade. This spark first began in photography and has done nothing but grown since then. As I grew older this curiosity went from photography to television. The particular aspect of this field that draws my attention is the world of producing. Although I do not have any prior experience with producing, I know that an internship with WVUA 23 would be the perfect first step in one day becoming a producer. I learn very quickly and I will not stop something until it is completed in a proper manner. I am very eager to learn everything I can about producing and I know I will be able to do so through this internship. I enjoy working in a team-oriented setting where there is one common goal, as I am able to get along with all different types of people. I do not feel that any job is beneath me, and I am willing to do whatever possible in order to gain knowledge in…

My reason for applying to Empire State is to complete my degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. A college education will assist me in acquiring a range of knowledge in many subjects, as well as advanced knowledge in the specific subjects I am interested in. Throughout my career in the military I have received training in many aspects of leadership, and management. The training encompassed a variety of areas which included human resources and logistical operations. In reviewing my Military Transcripts I came to the conclusion that the years of training could easily be transferable in a civilian capacity. This idea was the determining factor which helped me decide to pursue a degree in business management. An Associate’s Degree will provide me with the necessary tools needed to succeed in a variety of industries such as finance or government. I look forward to expanding my ability to think abstractly and critically to express thoughts clearly in speech, and to improve on my weakest academic area which is my writing.…

I obtained a bachelor’s degree in General Management from the University of Conakry in 2002 in Guinea, West Africa. After graduating, I went to work for Name of the Firm, an auditing firm in Guinea, for two years. Then, I took a job as an accounting manager at Areeba, one of the largest wireless companies in the Guinea. Then, I went to work for SOGUIPAH, an Agro-Industry company, which grows rubber plants. The company also produces hard rubber from the coagulum which is a raw material used to produce rubber. When I arrived in the United States and to continue my quest for personal and professional growth, I enrolled in an undergraduate accounting program at the Jersey City University. Today, I am in my last semester and expect to graduate in December 2014. For someone in my situation, I believe it is important, after obtaining a bachelor’s degree, to continue carrying the momentum toward the achievement of a lifelong goal of obtaining an MBA.…
