George Gilb Pride Summary
Upon reading your definition of how Gilb defined “Pride” in his article, I have to agree that his use of stories and circumstances relating to everyday life, had a powerful meaning. I liked how you mentioned how you felt because of how Gilb described “Pride” by using the five senses and how this made you connect to his writing style. I see that as you look at your own life, that you have similar things make you proud in your life, that I can relate to myself. Having a job and working hard is a great source of pride. But you said it best when you stated how proud you are, by being accepted to Penn State, which is a very prestigious college. I would like to say that getting to know you in class these past few weeks has been a truly nice time,

Upon receiving my letter for invitation to apply for the National Junior Honor Society came feelings of hard work pays off, and a bit of pride. I have worked very hard to maintain an all A average at Friendswood Junior High while taking some PAP classes as well as challenging myself with Latin. Having been told in a conference with a 5th grade teacher that I was not going to be an A student and that my parents and I needed to get used to that fact, sent me on a mission to be the best student I knew that I was capable of being, regardless of what any teacher thought.…

Pride is a deep pleasure of satisfaction from one’s own achievement but is having too much pride a problem in today’s society? There are different kinds of ways to express one’s pride such as through an organization, sport, education or themselves. Imagine, a senior who recently been accepted to their dream college, University of Austin. That student will wear all the UT gear they can possibly find and represent their soon to be school. There are alumni’s who wear their college rings next to their wedding rings and even drivers who have the license plate of their graduating class and college. Even the people from Houston have pride to show off where they are from. Therefore, they throw up the “H-Town” sign up in the air or wear Houston gear of our sports or even skyline. Everybody has a bit…

Attending the Pride friday at IUPUC before the beginning of school has been one of the most helpful events. By going to this I met some friends and learned more about the school itself. Although I have made the choice not to stay at IUPUC all four years of my college career, being here my first semester has started me off great. During this event they spoke of how we start and end our four years in the same way. I am just glad I have been able to enjoy my first semester by making some new friends, learning new strategies to working and figuring my life out.…

A recent event in my life where I felt proud was getting enough money to help my parents pay for bills and succeed and pursue "the american dream". I started to work for HoneyBaked Ham part time since I was eligible to work. The paychecks felt great and giving them to my parents was felt better. As my sister and I get ready for college, the money got tight and I did gigs on the side. I did everything from landscaping to repairing phone screens. Felt stressful but, mind over matter right? Thats exactly what my parents thought when they moved overseas to the new world. I felt a huge sense of pleasure as I could see stress lift off their shoulders when I gave them the money This would help me in college because I know I can give myself the extra…

Ever since I was the Defensive Captain of the football team every little thing I did was noticed. With the coaches working in our school, we were constantly supervised and had certain privileges other students didn’t. Before every big game I wanted to relax and focus on the game ahead, but the entire school wanted to talk to you and ask questions about what you’re going to do. In a way I enjoyed this, the pressure to step up to the plate made me feel like I had a purpose for the school. I believed in myself and knew I was capable of meeting their expectations. Their satisfaction didn’t satisfy me in anyway but seeing my hard work and dedication pay off did. I cherished the moments when the announcer would scream my number on the field after a big play. These moments were immaculate in my eyes especially in front of the big crowds. One of the tragic incidents of my…

There are several goals I have set for myself in college; I aspire to make the dean's-list in all the years I attend college, I anticipate participating in a minimum of two organizations which can get me more absorbed in the community, and finally, I want to become involved with the student body, and attend as many school sponsored events as I can. In my junior year, when I heard I made the honor roll at my high school, I was overcome with a feeling of fulfillment. This was the first time I had made the honor roll and with this achievement was a feeling of pride for the work I put in, and for the way the work reflected in my grades. But, I stayed hungry and kept working to maintain this honor, and I finished on the honor role for the entirety…

I think that I challenged myself to receive good grades, and that I have done so this semester. I am eager to find out new or different things that I have some knowledge about, but I was amazed at the things I thought were right with counseling issues that I was completely wrong about. I am sure that I still have a long way to go, and many new things to learn. I feel that I was entirely invested in this class and all the assignments that were given to me. I wasn’t late on any assignments and many times had the assignment finished before it was due. I read each chapter carefully and was interested in each new thing that I found. I always want to do my very best in each class that I take. I returned back to college when I was 40 years old. This was something that I had dreamed of for many years, but was afraid to try it. I thought that I wasn’t smart enough to go back to school. I am glad that I made this decision even if it was many years after I should have done it.…

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the class. It’s ODD, because generally I would say that, I enjoyed reading someone’s post or nice post, but these situations aren’t nice. Some of these are tragedies that are being expressed in writing, that rely on using strength and courage. Some of the actions that we take also rely on strength and courage or the actions we may want to take cannot be fulfilled without strength and courage.…
