Title: Genuine Happiness

Filipinos are said to be one of the happiest race in the world. That's why, it is a rare moment to find a gloomy soul in our land. In any events, even it may be a catastrophic one, we never fail to give our sweet smile. But not all smile portrays happiness. Because, some may smile even when they're in pain. What' my point? It's that not all happy are truly happy. Not all okay are really fine. But one thing I may assure, that even when every smile would shatter its value for joy, memories would always bring blissful feeling in here, at our heart.

Way back at third year highschool, before our Christmas break, my girl classmates planned to host a party with our T.L.E. teacher, Mrs. Tañare. This party is exclusively for girls only. They talked about the details and further decided to hold at Salawag, at Roxan's place. At first , I had thought of not going since I'm not fond of social gatherings and celebrations. But my friends, Batibot, insisted me to join. And that' the start of an unexpected enjoyment for my life.

Then I got there, without any foods for sharing and the such. I only brought myself for the sake of my friends. At first, there was a chaos and unruly because Mrs. Tañare hadn't showed up. She instructed us to wait, and so we did. They took photos to calm and lighten up the mood. We shared stories of our own foolish experiences. Until the moment when we decided to play parlor games outside. I should admit that it was fun. We were all laughing hysterically in every game. We were completely submerged by the thrill and excitement of competing with one another. Yet, there are no prizes given. I think, those happiness were enough reward for each and everyone.

Last thing that we had done was climbing at the hill and laying there peacefully. We even strolled and climbed some short trees for a better view, but only for a mean time. We played boyish games such as "luksong baka", and took photos, again. As the sun set, we

How beautiful was that moment! We were young. We knew how to love and how to sing. Without alcohol, without drugs, without uncouth vulgarities.…

In respects to being a popular work, I personally find Sharon Bergley’s article, “Happiness: Enough Already,” to be rather good. Firstly, this article is easy and interesting to read. Secondly, it contains the points of views of different authors. And thirdly, its information is generic enough to be relative to almost everyone’s life.…

What is happiness? Marketing and media have brainwashed people’s brain into believing that happiness means to own possessions such as cars, big houses, or brand new devices among others. Unfortunately, this overstated fable is far from real. In fact, most people misunderstand that happiness is a choice that lies inside them. Weather to be happy or not, is up to any individual to choose as they please. Namely, true happiness is no more than a positive attitude, a good healthy habit, and life meaning.…

    Happiness Explained

Jane McGonigal is a prominent game developer who has dedicated her recent years to developing games that try to help the world out instead of just entertaining a few. In the tenth chapter of her book Reality is Broken, she argues that happiness levels in the United States and around the world are alarmingly low, and people are very depressed. She then introduces a term called “Happiness Hacking”. McGonigal herself defines it as “…the experimental design practice of translating positive-psychology research findings into game mechanics. It’s a way to make happiness activities feel less hokey, and to put them in a bigger social context”. (McGonigal. Reality is Broken, pg. 188). In other words, McGonigal believes by turning ‘weird’ happiness activities into games, more people will start to perform them since the new generations have their minds set into games, so anything game-like they will enjoy. She cites many researches in which subjects thought happiness activities were awkward to perform, corny, and believed self-help didn’t work. I agree, because after reading I came to my own conclusion (and thinking back into my life as well) that indeed, when you are sad and some one tells you to smile, all you think is ‘please shut up’. So what can makes us be happier? In her book, McGonigal maintains that “The two most frequently recommended happiness activities across the scientific literature are to express gratitude and practice acts of kindness.” (pg. 189) Her point is that to make our selves happy, the best way is to make someone else happy, because this is rewarding to our brain. She came up with some games that will remove awkwardness and shyness from these activities, like killing someone with compliments and stabbing them with a smile, or uploading a video of yourself dancing with a mask to make you feel better with the positive feedback people give you without revealing your identity.…

Many calamities have landed there in the Philippines, Including the Typhoon Haiyan, which is the most terrifying storm ever existed. It’s a tragedy to experience such a storm in a small country like theirs. We’ve seen high floods high as a second floor house, Children crying, Starving people begging for help, winds not like the zephyr outside your window but a wind like a tornado. If you’re in their situation, you’ll be given a Hobson’s choice by your own mind “You’ll eat that spoiled food on the ground or starve yourself to death” You have no option but to eat whatever food there is. People there had lousy- which means “abundantly supplied”- of stuffs, lousy of tragic memories, lousy of tears, lousy of floods, lousy of lousiness of many stuffs brought by the typhoon, but one thing we’re very lousy of are their humor and smiles. This is the best characteristics of Filipinos, even though darkness is taking over, they still find our little ray of sunshine and are happy for it, we’ll still find their sweet smiles. I found a lot of funny pictures in the internet, people dressed like a mermaid sitting on a rock, imitating little mermaid. Some are dressed like scuba divers, swimming in the ersatz swimming pool which is the flood in an Olympics way, edited a picture and titled it “The ConjuRAIN”, another picture showed two people lying on a waterbed, looking very relaxed as if they're sun bathing. some even managed to take a picture of themselves smiling!. The Brightest smiles are owned by the Filipino people.…

Sea looked extremely beautiful. We bought some junk foods, fruits and grandfather’s birthday cake to eat. When I played in the beach it was relaxing for me. We played volley ball, hide and seek in the woods. Around five something we all went to sea to swim. My grandfather and grandmother were enjoying a lot. At last we all gave a surprise to grandpa. He cuts the cake, and we gave lots of gifts to him. Finally around seven we reached our home. This was remarkable day. Next day I visited all the family and friends houses. I had a great time.…
