Genres of Music

My favorite genre is R&B. Every genre has their own unique twist to it but I think what makes mine unique is the effect is has on people. R&B makes one want to move and dance to the beat of the music. It gives life to the ambience and it brings people to have a new personality. I personally find that it brings me up when I’m down. I find it very similar to hip-hop but R&B is a mixture of different genres which includes hip-hop in the mix. The artist that came to mind to associate R&B with is Beyoncé. It only seems appropriate to talk about Beyoncé because she is one of my favorite artists and today she managed to pull of the stunt of the century by surprising us all with her brand new secret album that no one was expecting. I find her extremely powerful and she has a great effect on one with the music that she produces no matter what the song is about. Whether it was with her group, Destiny’s Child or on her own as a solo artist Beyoncé definitely conveys a message in her lyrics and with the beat of the songs. Beyoncé fits into the genre because the songs that she produces are a mixture of rhythm and blues, pop, soul, funk, and hip hop. Classical music is a calming soothing type of music in my personal opinion. I am not too familiar with the artist in the classical genre but after listening to some pieces in this class I became fascinated with classical piano music. Therefore I added a Pandora station and one artist who I happen to see quite frequently was Mozart. As I did a little research I learned he was a composer for a piano quartet. Two songs that he composed that I stumbled across were “An die Freude” and “Dans un bois solitaire.” Classical music is fascinating to me. I find it extremely interesting because I find it amazing that music such as this can convey such powerful emotions without any lyrics. That’s very difficult to do with the modern music seeing as how the song is now based more on the lyrics than the rhythm or the beat of

At this event, I saw how people including students, parents, faculty, and friends came together from a tired day to listen to smooth classical music. Music has such a mighty effect on people because it is a universal language. People all over the world listen to music, from pop to folk, and enjoy it. Classical music has a way of permeating the heart and relaxing a stressed mind. For example, at the event, one of the pieces the band performed was Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma. Their performance of this piece demonstrated the culture and lifestyle of French music during the 1900s. As the wind ensemble played this piece, the atmosphere in the room shifted because of the lively tone the piece had. People began clapping and moving along to the tempo of the song and joy entered the entire lobby. Music not only relaxes a person, but it alters their mood as well. I was so stunned to see how one piece of jazz music could create a change in so many people in an…

What would you think, that someone was going to kill you? No, you would not think that. You would think that it was nap time or it was supposed to be quiet. Said in the article, “Studying For Finals? Let Classical Music Help You” by USC, clarifies that the mood and tone of the music can influence many things. The article states that classical music will help you learn. In my opinion, rap and pop music influence my learning in positive ways while classical and indie music can slow down my learning process and it allows myself to get off topic. In the article by the University of Southern California, in paragraph fourteen it states “Children who listen to classical one hour a day for six months are more relaxed.” I am a very relaxed child and I never listen to classical music. Music for sure helps me study and focus in class, it just depends on what kind of music the teacher is playing. It is really beneficial when teachers allow us as students to choose music off of our devices. Then we have our own personal opinion on what music helps…

Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert are some of the greatest and most known classical composers of all time. Most people have at least heard of them, and most of them have likely heard some of their music as well. It’s the voice of the universe. Advancing into high school, practicing clarinet became rare due to being chosen as a drum major during marching band. As a result, every year during the fall, I was unable to play. However, in time for concert season I would be the first to audition for region band. Region band is a competition consisting of every musician playing the assigned piece and scales to visualize who are the more mature players. With the exception of freshmen year, I made region and occasionally area. However, my passion for music grew to a more classical texture. A portion of society thinks of rap or pop when they hear the word music. Music in my terms is classical. Growing up listening to classical piano, I was able to perceive the emotion themed in the piece. For example the piece that I mentioned earlier was Chopin’s Ballade no. 1 in G-Minor. Throughout the nine minutes of complexity are depression, hatred, happiness, loss of hope. Every song has it’s own story. Music to me is truly the sound of the universe for without it, we are nothing. There would be no sound, no emotion. Music is what brings us to…

Rock’-n’-roll is always changing and evolving into specific sub-genres. Sub-genres break down a general genre of music into a more specific and sophisticated type of that category. For example, rock has many different branches, including soft rock, southern rock, and hard rock. Rock in general typically has a lead electric guitar with a vigorous 4/4 beat produced by the drums. Yet, in the sub-genre of southern rock, a southern country rhythm is combined with a touch of rock and roll. Hard rock separates itself by sustaining a loud, powerful, voluminous sound, whereas soft rock maintains a slower and smoother rhythm while still possessing the rock tone. Each sub-genre contributes their own uniqueness while also preserving rock characteristics…

Genre labeling is an approach to interconnecting record companies and its artists across the history of the process of music making, selling, and consuming. Generic Genre Labeling in the music industry led the creation of three primary musical styles - Folk Music, Art Music, and Popular Music which was able to maintain socially accepted music regulations. This prompted music fans to question the concept of mass culture and alienated subjectivity of musical styles. Artists like KD Lang, an influential singer-songwriter, was recognised for her authenticity and ability to self-produce her own genre and communal space. All genres of music have been researched but scientists have shown that classical music tends to benefit babies the most. This is due to its complex musical structure and its soothing nature. Children benefit from classical music in many ways. First, it helps soothe infants and allows for an easy way to put your baby to sleep. Second, there is a significant possibility that premature babies become stronger quicker when exposed to classical music. Listening to this genre showed that premature babies gained more weight and had a stronger heartbeat than those that were not exposed to music. Lastly, listening to classical allows children to improve their spatial reasoning and critical thinking skills. For those of you that don’t know, spatial reasoning is important for generating solutions to multi-step problems, such as those involved in games, math, and science. Classical music “turns on” pathways that correspond to spatial reasoning and critical thinking. This is because babies are born with a mass of neurons in their brain. As they grow, their nerve cells quickly form and connect making children vulnerable to…

An also another example of jazz is Charlie and Tommy performing to Circus. There are a lot of things that are great about the hip hop dance they had, facials, there moves were very sharp and there costumes matched the music.
