Genetic Variation May Occur In A Population
Genetic Variation are the differences within individuals in a population. They are what make us genetically different from one another. Genetic variation occur because of mutations in our DNA and recombination. There are multiple types of mutation such as point mutations or chromosome mutations. Point mutations are the most common where only a single DNA nucleotide is affected. Within point mutations are frameshift and substitution. Frameshift mutations are when a base is either added or deleted. The ribosome that reads the DNA, reads every base 3 bases at a time. If a base is added, there will be a left over base. If a base is deleted, there will be two left over bases that will not be read. There is also substitution which is when one base is switched for another sometimes it has not affect since that same base might also code for the same codon. Other times, the base will have an affect on the amino acids as it is ended earlier that intended. Another reason for mutations is recombination. Recombination is the process of re-combining things. Recombination happens sexual reproduction and during meiosis. Mutations that happen during sexual reproduction is random fertilization. It is when any sperm and egg meet randomly during fertilization. Recombination also happens during sperm and egg production or meiois. Mutations also occur during meiosis. Meiosis is what makes the gametes or the sperm and egg. …show more content…
For example, humans would not be able to drink drink milk without evolving for new genes. Our food also mutated and gew is size which helped Humans with getting bigger sized food. Overall, genetic mutations are important because they help us evolve as we adapt to our living

In general, you should understand how evolution is operating on the population level. The individual organisms carry the genes that natural selection acts upon, but it is the genes of the population (gene pools) that evolve.…

DNA is a self-replicating material that is in almost all living organisms as the main part of chromosomes. Ribonucleic acid or RNA is a nucleic acid that is in all living cells. Its main role is to act as a messenger carrying instructions from DNA for controlling the synthesis of proteins. A mutation is a part of your genetic code that is changed. So your genetic code is made up of sections called codons and each codon is made up of three nucleotides. A genetic code is like a sentence. The mad cat ate the fat rat and the big bat. So this sentence would be your genetic code it all makes sense and isn't messed up anywhere. But let's say the mutation in frame error occurs which means that a section of the sentence is deleted but still makes sense. The mad cat ate the big bat. Without of frame errors it's not the codons or ‘words’ that get deleted it's the nucleotides or letters. The mad cat ate the tra tan dth ebi gba t. So now the sentence is intelligible and doesn't make any sense since the mutation took away fa from fat so the codons all mix and squish together to fill that gap. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is caused by a defective gene that produces dystrophin. it sometimes occurs in people without a family history of Duchenne. Meiosis is a process where a single cell divides twice to make four cells that only have half the original amount of genetic information. These cells are our sex cells; sperm in males, eggs in females.…

Natural selection is a process where the differential survival of reproduction of individuals in a population brought about the evolutionary change. In this process population adapts to their changing environment. there are other forces that can cause evolutionary changes in the genetic makeup of a population. Change is one of them. Most people believe traits and populations can evolve. Pesticide resistance in insects and antibiotic resistance in bacteria are evolutionary changes in biology populations that have been observed many times. Microevolution are changes that occurred within the biological population. The changes that result in the origin of a new species…

Genetic mutations are often associated with negative effects. However, mutations in the genetic code can be a positive thing. An article on the Tech Museum of Innovation website explains “Over time, genetic mutations create genetic diversity, which keeps populations healthy. Many mutations have no effect at all.” Without genetic mutations would humans might not be as generally healthy. Should the public be allowed to genetically modify their offspring despite the unknown and known…

A species can be defined as a group of organisms so similar they can breed together to form fertile offspring. For example, a horse and a donkey can breed to produce a mule but the mule, is infertile therefore showing a horse and a donkey are of different species. Within a species there are still differences and this variation is very important in evolution because without them, natural selection could not occur.…

Genes are the little things that make you who you are. It is why your eyes are brown, blue, hazel, green, etc., because of your genes. That is why your hair is curly, straight, or wavy. Or why you’re tall or you’re short. Every unique thing about you is due to your genes. They determine what you’re like, your appearance, how you survive, and how you behave in your environment (Background). Having the power to change genes has plenty of benefits, but also plenty of downsides.…
