Genetic Mutations: A Change In DNA
A mutation is a change in DNA. To be more specific, it's a change in the arrangement of bases in an individual gene or the structure of the chromosome which changes the arrangement. There are many types of mutations such as point mutation, frameshift, and chromosomal mutations. Each kind can either be very effective or not change much at all. It depends on the exact case and which kind it is. Some are more severe then others, for example point mutation is much less harmful then chromosomal mutation. Mutations can do nothing, cause conditions like down syndrome, or sometimes even death. People who have mutations are called mutants.bo Mutations can sometimes be very beneficial. One way they can help us is by allowing new versions of DNA combinations to occur. When these new combinations are beneficial they can create improved varieties of the organisms, resulting in more diversity and also gaining greater adaptability in the species. …show more content…
Over time our bodies have adapted to tolerate lactose better. Before our bodies couldn't drink milk like we do now due to their genetics. Now our bodies have better adapted due to genetic mutation. Lastly a way that mutations can be helpful to the human body is the production of new and superior proteins. These proteins made wouldn't be able to be created any other way. By producing these new proteins we are advancing in evolution and gaining better survival characteristics. Mutations are not always harmful and scary as they're put out to be. Sometimes these changes in our DNA can help us. Depending on the case, mutations can also hurt us. For example a way that mutations can be very harmful is a protein called p53 which is necessary to prevent a cell from growing uncontrollable which is cancer. When a body has a mutation in p53 it can result in a cell with damaged DNA to reproduce. This is a way to get cancer. A mutation can cause a person to have

Mutation is a change in the nucleotide arrangement of a short locale of a genome. Numerous mutations are point mutations that supplant one nucleotide with another; others include insertion or deletion of one or a couple of nucleotides. Mutations result either from errors in DNA or from the harming impacts of mutagens, for example, chemicals and radiation, which respond with DNA and change the structures of individual nucleotides. All cells possess DNA-repair enzymes that attempt to minimize the number of mutations that occur. These enzymes work in two ways.…

Mutations are alterations in the nucleotides that change the amino acid sequence within the genotype of an organism; mutations can occur from either insertion or deletions of nucleotides in a protein . The protein created from the base pairings of a mutated nucleotide may result in the making of an incorrect protein . Mutations, in important genes, may cause the cell to die if the gene synthesizes a defective protein. Muttions can occur in a few nucleotide pairs as well as long segments of DNA. A nucleotide pair substitution is an example of a small-scale mutation ; it is the replacement of one nucleotide and its pair with another pair of nucleotides. A change in an amino acid sequence may not always result in any changes on the encoded protein.…

DNA is a self-replicating material that is in almost all living organisms as the main part of chromosomes. Ribonucleic acid or RNA is a nucleic acid that is in all living cells. Its main role is to act as a messenger carrying instructions from DNA for controlling the synthesis of proteins. A mutation is a part of your genetic code that is changed. So your genetic code is made up of sections called codons and each codon is made up of three nucleotides. A genetic code is like a sentence. The mad cat ate the fat rat and the big bat. So this sentence would be your genetic code it all makes sense and isn't messed up anywhere. But let's say the mutation in frame error occurs which means that a section of the sentence is deleted but still makes sense. The mad cat ate the big bat. Without of frame errors it's not the codons or ‘words’ that get deleted it's the nucleotides or letters. The mad cat ate the tra tan dth ebi gba t. So now the sentence is intelligible and doesn't make any sense since the mutation took away fa from fat so the codons all mix and squish together to fill that gap. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is caused by a defective gene that produces dystrophin. it sometimes occurs in people without a family history of Duchenne. Meiosis is a process where a single cell divides twice to make four cells that only have half the original amount of genetic information. These cells are our sex cells; sperm in males, eggs in females.…

How Genes works Genes control the characteristics of living organisms. Genetic modification allows scientists to change genes in a more specific or controlled way. Genes can be switched on or off or their sequences can be altered. By using genetic modification it is possible to introduce new characteristics more quickly. Because all organisms use the same chemical building blocks, copies of genes can be moved between totally unrelated species, making it possible to introduce characteristics that would not be possible through conventional breeding.…

The potential for evolution begins when a mutation occurs during the reproductive process of a given organism. In most cases, that mutation will have a harmful effect or no effect at all, but sometimes, a random mutation will give it’s carrier an advantage, giving it a better chance to survive, and reproduce. That’s when natural selection comes in; the mutation will spread throughout the population and be passed down through generations and generations. Continued on Next…

When a person is born, their DNA is subject to many different mutations throughout their life. Some of which are inherited from their parents, they develop at birth or during their adulthood. Some of these mutations are harmless and can go unnoticed for your whole existence, while others can alter your health drastically. There are some mutations that are considered to be valuable, as well as a silent one which does not affect you at all. The mutations heard about most often are those that cause disease such as, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, and Tay-Sachs disease (Genetics.) These specific diseases are both devastating and life changing. Each disease is caused by a mutation in different gene and in turn affects different parts…

Genetic differences are due to the different genes that each individual organism possesses. The differences occur arise in living organisms and change from generation to generation. Genetic variation arises as a result of mutations, meiosis and fusion of gametes. Mutations are changes in DNA that result in the offspring containing different characteristics by the changing of quantity or structure of the DNA. The end result of the process of altering the DNA structure is a different amino acid sequence that leads to a formation of a different polypeptide, and hence a different protein, or no protein being produced at all. So, as proteins are responsible for the characteristics of an organism, it follows that…
