Learning Activity 4&5: Applied Research
The hypothesis that I have decided to come out with for this project involves the gym, working out and body image. I’m taking the side/idea that although the majority say women have more body issues than men and are more insecure about their bodies, it’s the reverse, and men have just as many if not more body image issues. For this hypothesis I went to the gym for a period of 2 ½ hours, brought my workout log book, and while fitting in a set or workout here and there as to appear more naturalistic, for the most part I wrote down what was going on around me and what I observed at the gym. I stayed towards the opening of the gym to see whether people went upstairs to the cardio room or stayed downstairs in the weight room after I tallied the total in each room, and I also accounted for when someone would leave the gym as to not have a recount of those who left to the bathroom or came back.

As I stated before my hypothesis was that men tend to have just as much if not more body image issues and are more self conscious about how they look in society, showing that there is just as much pressure out there for men to worry about how they look as women. The first and biggest piece of evidence to back up this idea is how many Women came into the gym compared to men, 29 men showed up to the gym within a 2.5 hour period while only 17 women showed up to workout,
