When you are studying, use the 30-3-2 rule. This simply means that you should concentrate intently on the subject you are studying, then take a three minute break before taking another two minutes to recall the information you learned during the previous 30 minutes. Then start the process all over again.…

At school, I have never really spoken up and usually keep to myself, with the exception of opening up to my friends. It was and still is very hard for me to branch out and connect with people I am not familiar with. However, as I started my automotive program, all of that slowly changed. In my class of fourteen, I…

If you want to fit in, by all means do not be the kid that attempts to be friends with everyone in the entire school. All this is going to do is make you look like a person who has a shallow relationship with a whole lot of people, but nobody really trusts you. Some kids might not even like you if you do this, so stay away from this tactic. Making friends is not as difficult as people make it out to be. Just simply be yourself and find people that enjoy talking and laughing about the same things that you do. Eventually ask the person in the group that you are closest with if they want to grab a bite to eat, or maybe catch a movie. Keep asking this person, but don’t be pushy or clingy! Play it cool and if they say yes, maybe ask them if one of their friends wants to join in, eventually you might get invited to some of the activities that they participate in.If you follow these steps, it is really not that difficult to fit in. Making friends isn’t too hard, it just takes a little bit of confidence and you are halfway there. Don’t sweat it though, fitting in at high school is not the end of the world, you have your whole life ahead of…

But I’m just going to say this ahead of time; your first friends aren’t going to be your forever friends. The thing that probably made it easy for me to make friends was that there were a lot of Asians at that school (back at my old school I was the only Asian kid in my grade). So you can kind of tell how narrow-minded I was, when I was a child, when it came to making friends (if you can’t tell, I didn’t want to be friends with anyone that wasn’t in the same race as me).…

My social life at Intec was blooming very well. I had a lot of friends from different states although their country of origin was likely the same as mine. At Intec, students were divided into classes and they stayed in single classrooms permanently until the end of the semester. The benefit from this system was all students could strengthen their relationship bonds with each other. However, because I was in the same group of students all day long, it took a long time for me to know students from different classes and to befriend them. For me, I liked this system because I could know in depth my classmates as I spent more time with them. Meanwhile, it is very different at Penn State Harrisburg as I have to switch classes for every course. I meet different students in every class I enter. I also have new friends for each class and they make my mind more open to the surroundings because students at Penn State come from diverse cultures and origins. Nevertheless, as everyone is busy and does not have the chance to meet outside yet, I can only socialize with them in that particular class. Even though I know that this arrangement benefits me more, I am still having trouble accommodating to it. It is not that easy to…

The biggest thing when you know you will meet someone new is to know how to converse with an open mind. My father once told me to never talk about 2 subjects with friend or foe; politics and religion. But these kinds of discussions inevitably come up through conversation, especially around holidays or election time. One of the biggest things to remember is to be mature enough to "agree to disagree". It is not worth ruining a friendship over points of view. It should be used as an advantage to learn.…
