As with any jumping on fads there are always going to be someone to try to take advantage of consumers; welcome to the wonderful world of GNC. This company is no different than any other company, low paying part-time employees, medium range pay for managers, and large pay for regional sales directors and so on. First of all let me explain my background: I am a part-time sales associate, I have been lifting for about 4 years, have taken three nutritional classes in college, along with two personal trainer classes and four types of chemistry classes. I have since switched my major from nutrition so no I do not have a degree in dietetics?.…

Profits hinge on budding sales and handling variable and fixed costs. Businesses attempt to increase profit by applying various approaches. Some merely cut costs and anticipate preserving sales/ revenue. Others cut production and channel the savings to the customers in an effort to radically increase sales to surge profit. As in our scenario above Grosgover Ltds decision to change from a local to an overseas supplier is projected to drop 10% in material cost, a variable cost. Variable costs are contingent to sales since they rely on costs of direct materials as well as labor; it is pertinent to mention that all businesses sustain fixed costs irrespective of sales made. Foreign trade has to be approached rationally and with a strong thought process in order to maximise the…

Despite the large scale operations of the company, GM has multiple areas of concern that need to be addressed in order to sustain long term value for both stakeholders and shareholders. Preliminary results of this analysis indicate that GM suffered enormous financial losses as a result of poor product quality, lack of consumer appeal, lag in alternative fuel technologies, inefficient plant production, and a saturation of similar car models amongst their brands. Due to these factors, consumer perception has plagued the company‘s sales, resulting in a steady decrease in market share across all platforms (www.gm.com).…

Procter & Gamble (P&G) needs to borrow an average of $55 million over the next three years in order to expand and modernize its Mexican subsidiary. As four financing alternatives are currently available to the company, our analysis focuses on the several factors that could affect P&G’s final decision. Both the lowest cost of raising capital and an acceptable level of risk are at the basis of P&G Mexico’s rationale. Market factors include different interest rate levels, the Mexican tax law, devaluation probability and returns in Mexican money-market investments. Country-specific factors include the Mexican economic and political environment. Given that interest rates in US dollars are significantly lower than in Mexican pesos, we compare the four financing options by also taking into consideration the positive returns provided by Mexican economic policy regarding domestic investments in monetary assets. We conclude with a sensitivity analysis of our assumptions by highlighting the prominent role played by estimated devaluation and the decline in Mexican interest rates.…

Originally, the concept was primarily directed to provide an alternative risk financing approach for Fortune 500 corporations. The approach is one that allows corporations to be able to retain a portion of their risks through the use of a wholly owned insurance company. However, as the captive movement has expanded, so too has the ownership aspect of the concept.…

If you were to read a story in the news that a government had assumed control of a private company, what country might come to your mind? Possibly Russia, Cuba, China, maybe even Vietnam? Probably the United States would be the furthest from your mind. Not everything the United States government does should be considered socialistic, but obtaining control of the private company General Motors was an act of socialistic behavior. As Lake Land students majoring in business and maybe future business owners, would you want the company that employed you or which you owned to be controlled by the government? Many government officials make the argument that this was the right decision, because it saved many jobs during tough economic time. This, however, is not a good enough reason to move toward socialism. The government should not have bought General Motors.…

When developing an advertising campaign, an initial step is to identify your target audience. In knowing your target audience, the company is able to create an advertising campaign that focuses on that specific group of people. Geico was able to determine that their target audience is any person who is old enough to drive a car because everyone needs insurance. Since this includes a wide range of ages, they were able to create many different types of advertisements. The next step would be to establish a budget and a main message. The main message that Geico is trying to get across to their consumers is that in a small amount of time they can save themselves money if they use them for their insurance needs. Everyone is supposed to have insurance and most people would like to save money. Designing the advertisement is the third step. Geico chose a myriad of ads to use such as starting out their commercials rhetorical questions, the Geico Gecko, and reality show themes. The appeal here is they are both comedic and serious, and they make you remember them. Geico has commercials where real customers give testimonials about the service they received and the money they saved with Geico, all while the someone else gives their commentary. The fourth step is to use surveys and focus groups to pretest what the ads will say. It is important to understand what will grab the attention of the consumer. Deciding the different types of media that will be…
