Geez Obadiah Journey
“Topanga! Let’s go! If you do not get in this car now we are going to be late for one of the biggest times in history!”. “Alright, Alright. Geez Obadiah can you not just calm down we still have plenty of time to make it”. “Yes, okay I know we have time, but what if there is traffic while we go pick up the photographer or something?” “It will be fine, we have plenty of time to go pick up the photographer and make it to the ship before we take off”
As Obadiah and Topanga are on there way to pick up Juan who is the photographer for this trip they make sure everything is going as planned. They are both very nervous for this trip because they have been preparing and for this for quite sometime now and it's finally the big moment. Obadiah, Topanga, and Juan are astronauts who were hired to go to space and explore outside of the solar system to take pictures and gather more information about planets and stars around us. Once they arrived to the launch pad they got their suits on and prepared for take off. All three astronauts took their seats and began the takeoff process. After what had seemed to be the longest ten seconds ever they finally began to move. The ship shook and made loud roaring sounds as it struggled to move off the ground. Loud crashing sounds filled the air as the rockets clamps disengaged. Finally after about twenty seconds

Obadiah helped him calm down and explained to the two that the aliens were their only hope of ever getting home again. “All we have to do is catch their attention so that we can communicate and ask for help” said Topanga. Juan then said “But what if they try to kill us? Or even worse, what if they try to get to earth and try to kill the entire human race?” Once again Obadiah helped him calmed down so tha him and Topanga could come up with a plan to communicate with the aliens. The only problem is that if they are not human then they do not speak

Apollo 13 was an ordinary launch, but disaster was near. Things weren't even going well pre-launch, as one of the crew members had contracted german measles, so he was left behind and replaced. They launched, and everything seemed to being going smoothly. The astronauts held a 49 minute TV broadcast, but 9 minutes later, an explosion shook the craft. Oxygen tank two blew up, causing number one to fail. They say gas venting out of the side of the ship. Also, ⅔ of the power cells had failed, so everything noncritical was turned off. Because of the failures, they had to conserve water and watch carbon monoxide levels. There wasn't enough power to purify water, so it was estimated to run out 5 hours until earth re-entry. Carbon Monoxide was also a problem, as the filters were broken and the extra ones from the lander were not compatible with the cockpit. They fashioned an adapter with tape, cardboard and plastic bags. Eventually, they made it home safely. Apollo 13 was a disaster, but thanks to clever people at mission control and an atent crew, everyone made it home…

After the death of Hilola Bigtree, Ava and Ossie began to live in a “fantasy world.” Ossie had made up an imaginary boyfriend for herself and became obsessed with him. One night, Ossie decided to leave Swamplandia and head off with Louis Thanksgiving. In the end of the story, Ava, believed Ossie’s story of her boyfriend and began to have imaginary visions of the surroundings and of the Bird Man. After the death of their mother, Ava and Ossie used these imaginary and fantasy visions in an attempt to conceptualize life after their mother's death. If Hilola had still been alive, Ava and Ossie would not have had such distorted, imaginary visions of the world. Hilola would have led them in a more rational direction instead of such a radical, and…

The actual launch of the Apollo 13 was on April 11, 1970. Two days into the mission it looked like the smoothest flight that the Apollo program had ever seen. "The spacecraft is in real good shape as far as we are concerned. We're bored to tears down here." said Joe Kerwin of mission control (3). At 55 hours the crew held a TV broadcast for 49 minutes where they showed off their living conditions and how they worked in weightless situations. Nine minutes after the broadcast mission control instructed that Odyssey to give their oxygen tanks a stir and moments later oxygen tank No.2 in the service module exploded, due to an exposed fan wire. The eruption then damaged oxygen tank No.1, causing them to start to lose oxygen rapidly. The cover of…

    Olaudah Equiano Passage

The passage from The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, Gustavus Vassa, the African, Written by Himself is structured to humanize the African population being brought to the America’s. By positively depicting the image of black men and at the same time using negative diction to portray the image of white men, Equiano is able to challenge the ideals that black people are savages and instead questions who the real bad ones are. Equiano structures his passage by first introducing black people as helpless when he states, “poor chained men”. This is intentional because it instantly infers that the black people in the text are the victims. Equiano further uplifts the image of black people when he states, “ I found some of my nation,…

While climbing to the new altitude the airspeed dropped from 203 knots to 160 knots while they were climbing to forty one thousand feet from thirty seven thousand feet. The airspeed of 160 is very close to the stalling speed of the aircraft. Around this stalling speed the captain told the first officer that they will be coming down in a second and then stated that this thing will not hold altitude. The engines started to spool down and the stick shaker and stick pusher were activated three times in a ten second interval. The airplane then entered an aerodynamic stall. Once the stall occurred a left rolling motion began which eventually ended up in an eighty two degree left wing down configuration. At this time both of the engines actually flamed out. The captain declared an emergency at this time but only admitted to one of the engines failing, not both of them.…

The three men on the mission were Jack Swigert, Fred Haise, and Jim Lovell. The flight was planning on landing on the moon but unfortunately something went wrong, one of two fuel cell oxygen tanks in the service module had exploded. Damaged Teflon insulation on the wires to the stirring fan inside oxygen tank 2 allowed the wires to short-circuit and ignite the insulation. The lives of the three astronauts were threatened because of the massive internal damage in the spacecraft. NASA had to make the decision between landing on the moon and getting home safely. They decided to get everyone home so they then had to come up a plan to do so. They were able to do so but it took a lot…

It is a human nature to wonder about unknown and try to explain unexplainable. Throughout the times, many cultures created myths that explained creation of the world and humans and enlightened people about natural phenomena. As Morford mentioned, “the word myth comes from the Greek word mythos, which means "word”, "speech”, "tale”, or "story”, and that is essentially what a myth is: a story” (Classical Mythology, 3) Heroes play a big part of the myth in any culture. They are all different, yet each went through similar events in their heroic journey. These events were first noticed and described by Joseph Campbell in “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”.…

Olaudah Equiano middle passage experience was the most common and accurate at that time in history. He touches on basis to where things only happened to him from his experience. Unlike Olaudah experience the book “Saltwater Slavery” touches on everything from everybody point of views. The book breaks down things that happened on plantations, loading ports, and auction sites. What I will be doing is analyzing both sources and comparing/contrasting them into a paper that correlates with each other.…

By 64 seconds into the launch, the fire had burned a large hole into the casing of the booster. At 72 seconds, the strut that attached the booster to the external tank had loosened. Michael Smith, the pilot of the Challenger uttered “Uh oh,” his last known words (Challenger, 2008). That was the only evidence that anyone onboard suspected any sort of trouble. At 73 seconds, the loosened booster rocket, smashed into the tip of the right wing, then it crashed into the fuel tank, setting off a massive explosion. Debris from the explosion were sent 20 miles above the earth. Burning fragments from the shuttle rained down on to the recovery operations for the next hour. Experts believe that the module had fallen back into the ocean at a speed of nearly 2,000 miles per hour. The cabin, which was sixteen feet high, had been compressed into a solid mass about half of its original…

For Todorov, what happened in 1492 was not merely the invasion and subsequent subjugation of the Indies by the Spanish Conquistadores, but was also an encounter between different ways of interpreting the world. This encounter was not only between the “civilized” and the “barbarians”. It was also between the “past-oriented”, “tradition dominated” Aztecs who had no formal script and hence couldn’t generate ‘signs’ to communicate punctually and eventually unable to resist Cortes’s attack and the Europeans who could communicate through language rather than only directly to the world through external signs, and thus could understand the Aztecs much better than the Aztecs could understand the Europeans. It was also a clash of communication or rather the lack of it. Many language theorists would like to look at this a clash of cultures – oral vs written; and as the written word can capture the spoken word, the culture…

It all started like a normal, the kids were learning how to hunt from our men, and I was taking care of the house. Then, out of nowhere, they appeared. Some unusual people that were not from around here. They looked like gods before our eyes, for they came in horses, ships, and their clothing was magnificent. We did not approach them at first because we were intimidated, but then, our fearless leader Montezuma appeared. Montezuma, not being afraid of them , asked them what they wanted and why they were in our territory; oddly enough they were not here to hurt us or take over our land.…
