I. Background: Gawad Kalinga translated in English means “to give care” and it is an alternative solution to the obvious problem of poverty not just in the Philippines but the world. Its approach is integrated, holistic and sustainable – a concrete action plan to rebuild this nation by harnessing the best of the Filipino – our faith and patriotism. Gawad Kalinga’s achievements are a reflection of the sharing among different classes in society, and the partnership involving all sectors of society – bridging the gaps that divide us as people. We are also building International villages, showing that poverty can be addressed if rich and poor nations learn to share resources to create a better world for all. Building a GK house costs P60,000 will provide a descent, beautiful and secure home for a very poor family in slum areas in the Metro Manila. You will receive personal letters from us with news and photographs showing the progress of the project that you have funded and information about the community you are helping. We also encourage the beneficiaries to write to you directly expressing their appreciation and sharing their story with you. Sponsoring a poor child in a slum community costs P10,000 per year. The organizers want to help in providing more homes by supporting at least 5 GK houses and 10 children in one year. They believe that Gawad Kalinga gives the best guidance in empowering more of the Filipino’s dreams by improving their homes and living. Their goal is to aid more Filipinos in building better homes and brighter future by supporting Gawad Kalinga financially.

II. The Problem Statement: The “Couture Builds Home” fashion show will take the veil off and explore the lighter side

However, the recipient will only receive around 13 million rupiah per household to complete the renovation work.
