1. What is the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI)?
GSSI, established in 1985, conducts research on sports nutrition and kinesiology.
GSSI has a satellite lab in Bradenton, Florida and headquarters in Barrington, Illinois.
The GSSI scientists have diverse backgrounds in sports nutrition and sports science,
GSSI offers informationals, events, and sports related conferences and expos to disseminate information with the world’s largest sports medicine and exercise science organization, The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). The ACSM advances scientific research to provide educational and practical applications of exercise medicine. Yes, I think the information on this site is reliable even though it is sponsored by the corporation behind the sports drink Gatorade. The relationship GSSI has with the ACSM establishes credibility to the joint mission the two organizations have to advance and provide research for health and sports professionals to create best practices.

When I evaluate to determine whether a resource is a valuable source of information I look for currency and/or history of resource; identify the author’s authority; and informational bias.

1.) Is information from corporate bodies known to be objective, and properly researched? Or does the tone of the information seem bias? URL analysis helps indicate affiliations identification with committees, businesses, organizations, or government agencies to provide source sponsorship and relevance. 2.) Identify the author(s) authority, and what are his or her credentials, professional affiliations, education, and experience. Also, I look at the country of original work and consider the source.
3.) Currency currency and/or history of resource because new and past developments.
