Gatlinburg Vacation
Gatlinburg, Tennessee is a great place for vacation. I have visited there several times . While visiting there I learned alot. Although, there is quite a bit of information I still had to learn and I would like to share that information with you today. Gatlinburg is a mountain resort city in Sevier county, Tennessee, United States. The city is a popular vacation resort, as it rests on the border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park along U.S. Highway 441, which connects Gatlinburg to Cherokee, North Carolina through the national park. Many people call Gatlinburg “The Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains.” Extensive logging in the early 1900s led to increased calls by conservationists for federal action, and in 1911 congress passed the Weeks Act to allow for the purchase of land for national forests. Authors such as Horace Kephart and Knoxville-area business interests began advocating the creation of the national park in the Smokies, similar to Yellowstone National Park. With the purchase of 76,000 acres of the Little River Lumber Company tract in 1926, the movement quickly became a reality. Andrew Huff opened the first hotel in Gatlinburg called the Mountain View Hotel in 1916 and by …show more content…
The Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum was consumed by the fire, along with an arcade, haunted house, and souvenir shop. The blaze was fortunately stopped before it could consume the adjacent 32-story Gatlinburg Space Needle. The block, known to the locals as “Rebel Corner”, was completely rebuilt and reopened to visitors in 1995. Few artifacts from the Ripley’s Museum were salvaged. Ripley’s has caught fire twice since its reopening, once in 2000, and again in 2003. Both of those fires were caused by faulty light fixtures as well. The 2000 fire caused no damage and the 2003 fire was contained and caused minimal

Grand Teton National Park is named for Grand Teton, the tallest mountain in the Teton Range. The naming of the mountains is attributed to early 19th-century French speaking trappers—"les trois tetons" (the three teats) was later anglicized and shortened to Tetons. At 13,775 feet (4,199 m), Grand Teton abruptly rises more than 7,000 feet (2,100 m) above Jackson Hole, almost 850 feet (260 m) higher than Mount Owen, the second highest summit in the range. The park has numerous lakes, including 15-mile (24 km) long Jackson Lake as well as streams of varying length and the upper…

In Atlanta, you watch your friend James L. Farmer Jr. leave for the airport to return home for his father’s funeral. He’s the principal founder of the Congress of Racial Equality and organizer of the Freedom Rides, which tested segregation on interstate buses. You wonder if you’ll ever see him again. As the bus carrying you and your group of black and white colleagues approaches Anniston, you see the driver of a southbound Greyhound motion to the white driver of your bus to pull over. The driver runs across the road and yells to your driver through the window: “There’s an angry and unruly crowd gathered at Anniston. There’s a rumor that some people on this bus are going to stage a sit-in. The terminal has been closed. Be careful.” Your worst fears seem confirmed. But the leader of your group, hoping the warning was a bluff, urges your driver to keep going. A minute or two later, your bus passes the city limits, and you notice Anniston’s sidewalks are lined with people, an unusual sight on a Sunday afternoon in a Deep South town. Your bus eases into the station parking lot just after 1 p.m. The station is locked. Silence. Then, out of nowhere, there’s a screaming mob led by William Chappell, Anniston’s Ku Klux Klan leader. Someone hears your driver encourage the attackers with the greeting: “Well, boys, here they are. I brought you some niggers and nigger-lovers.” The crowd of about 50, carrying metal pipes, clubs and chains, surrounds your bus. One of them screams “dirty communists” and “sieg heil.” You see no sign of any police. Your driver opens the door, but two passengers, who turn out to be unarmed, undercover cops, lean on the door levers to prevent anyone from entering. That doesn’t stop the mob from smashing windows, denting the sides of your bus and slashing tires. You duck down when someone cracks the window over your seat with a fist full of brass knuckles. This goes on for 20 minutes.…

He said that the land and ecosystem could only be saved if Yosemite became a national park (National Park Service). Johnson wrote a publication about this and Congress became interested, not even one year later The Yosemite Grant became Yosemite National Park. Muir knew more could be done to preserve Yosemite. In 1906 he took President Theodore Roosevelt on a three-day camping trip to try and persuade him to allow more protection for Yosemite. He accomplished his goal of the trip and now instead of only being protected by the state of California, it is federally protected (Sierra Club). He went on to influence California, among other states, even more with his…

The first and most obvious similarity between Tennessee and the story is that the main character of the story is a boy, but not only a boy, a boy who is starting to discover that he is attracted to men and may be a homosexual. This is obviously an area that Tennessee can relate to because he too was gay. But that single factor does not make the author unique in being able to write the story. What makes Tennessee specifically qualified to write the story is the time and place that he experienced the realities of being a boy discovering his sexuality. Tennessee was born in the deep south of Columbus, Mississippi on March 26, 1911. This time in history is known for being intolerant of homosexuality, and if there was one region that stood out the most for this intolerance it would be the south. Even today Mississippi is considered one of the least tolerant states being ranked 38th on The Daily Beast’s ranking of most tolerant states(thedailybeast.com). In fact Mississippi was one of the states that continued to practice sodomy laws until 2003 when the supreme court ruled it unconstitutional (thetaskforce.org). Growing up gay in the American south at this time would be riddled with hardships that few other places could match. For example Tennessee probably felt an…

Today, I would like to tell you about my best vacation. A few summers ago, my sister, her colleagues and me took a vacation to Nha Trang for 5 days. As you know, vacation was special days! We visitted many well-known places such as: Vinpeal Land, Hon Tam Island, Diamond Bay, Thap Ba Pagoda,...and so on. On the way riding in the cable car to go to Vinpeal Land, we saw several jelly fish in the very blue water. It is the first time I have ever seen an extremely beautiful view like that, so I felt very interested and relaxed. We stayed there all day to play games, visit the aquarium, take photographs,... We spent another day diving into the sea to view the colorful coral. At the moment I felt anxious because I couldn't swim, but when I saw the coral, its beauty made me fogot all thing. In the next day, I took a boat for some where that I don't know to eat seafood such as: fish, cuttle fish, shrimp,...The food was so fresh and delicious. At night, we rent bicycle to ride along the seacoast. It was so romantic journey. After we utterly exhausted, we droped in shift shop where we ate lobster, grilled meat roll and drank sugar-cane juice... The last day before came back home, we went to the market to buy speacialities and souvenirs for our family and fiends. Although I got sick after the vacation but I felt so happy from my heart. I love my vacation so much.…
