EFFECT OF CHILD ABUSE ON DEPRESSION.

According to childhelp.org, Child abuse consists of any act of commission that endangers or impairs a child’s physical or emotional health and development. Child abuse includes any damage done to a child which cannot be reasonably explained and which is often represented by an injury or series of injuries appearing to be non-accidental in nature. Some forms of child abuse include physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional/psychological abuse and neglect. Child abuse is very harmful and it could lead to psychological, behavioral, social, physical, and cognitive problems. I will be explaining indepthly the forms of child abuse, a psychological effect of child abuse which is depression, and treatments of depression.

Child abuse occurs all over the world although most abused children come from families where they own low-income jobs or no jobs at all, lack of education, social isolation, and poverty. These are also attributed to the factors that cause child abuse. Some cultural practices are also types of child abuse. Forms of child abuse are as follows:
Physical abuse - This is when a child is purposely injured either by beating, spanking, shaking, biting, whipping, slapping, hitting, kicking and other violent acts. If these acts are done almost every day, it affects the child’s wellbeing.

Sexual abuse - This is when adults engage in certain activities with children in order to gain sexual pleasure. In this case, the children is either unaware of the situation or forced to engage in such activities. This include exposure to pornographic material, exhibitionism, touching or penetrating their genital organs by an adult or with an object, forced observation of sexual acts, oral sex, prostitution, and so on.

Neglect- This is a type of abuse in which a child is abandoned and exposed to harsh environment. In this case, children lack basic needs like proper housing or shelter, clothing, food, water,
