I went to St. Michael School from Kindergarten through Eighth grade, so when it came time to leave for high school, I was not excited for the change. St. Michael was especially small in regards to student population. We had just under three hundred students split between all nine grades. That left roughly twenty to thirty kids per class. I was extremely used too this small environment and not exactly looking forward to the terrors of high school towering over me nor the thought of being lost in the sea of students. Over the years I was extremely imbedded in my academics. I had straight A’s for my entire time at St. Michael. I received the academic achievement award at Eighth grade promotion for having the highest GPA in my class. Despite this, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to live up…
I have always tried to earn good grades in school, and when I didn’t, I worked to make them better. This work ethic began in high school when I realized the importance of my grades. I knew…
When someone asks you why earning a higher grade in class is important to receive, your first response might be to help increase your grade point average (GPA). But why is a high GPA so coveted? Is it to get into a good post graduate school? But then why is this important? You would probably respond by saying to create more opportunities for yourself when it comes to a career to venture in. These are the questions that Steven Vogel dives into, and gets to the point that through all of these questions lead up to one underlying factor that grades are money and learning is what is paid for. He believes students will attempt to maximize…
Throughout my school career, obtaining good grades has always been a value my parents expected of me and therefore also have been a value I’ve held for myself. Getting the best out of my education is a goal I set for myself every school day to ensure that I’ll have a bright future. Also taking rigorous AP and CCP courses are an essential part of my academics. Challenging classes such as the AP and CCP courses enabled to reach my potential and push the limits of my education. These classes have not only helped me prepare for college this coming fall, but they have also allowed me to be ahead of my peers by getting some college credits out of the way before graduating high…
There is a common myth that high school is an established educational institute set out to deprive you of a social life and your hair before the age of 18 due to its curriculum and demanding courses .This is in fact is one of the biggest disclaimers you'll hear surrounding any high school. In reality, the academic aspect of high school is quite frankly the easiest obstacle to overcome. Although seemingly hard, for the majority of my academic classes this year I've easily adapted and have progressed quite smoothly within each individual course. To tell the truth the hardest course to overcome was AP Chemistry. While the subject itself captivated much of the basic knowledge taught in regular chemistry, the real difficulty was applying those…
In addition to all the benefits stated, one of them being motivation can be helpful with taking school seriously. Mainly because students who do not have to have a good GPA can just continuously participate in sports and not care about their grades. Having a good GPA can help you to focus on studying and taking school seriously because school is important, and studying is an essential part of doing at least okay in school. While studying to get good grades keeps students busy, it also keeps them out of trouble.…
One might argue that the grade is actually more important, that the grade is something tangible and that it is the only thing that can give my blood sweat and tears that were shed in this class a purpose. College recruiters only see these grades and not the level of true learning I experienced.…
I know that good grades are not everything because if I forget all of the information from the school year, all I will have to show for my high school career is a bunch of arbitrary numbers, however high they might be. I also continue to do learn, even when it may be difficult. This fall, a car ran into my house, destroying a room where I do most of my schoolwork. I obviously could not hand in the destroyed work, but I still made up all of my lost work in a timely manner and did not let my grades suffer. My passion for knowledge also extends outside of school.…
Getting a low grade points average "GPA" in college could have major negative effects on the future of a student and lead to adverse outcomes, especially for those candidates that are planning to attend graduate school, use high GPA level as a mean to secure governmental or private financial aid, or even for those that are looking to join the workforce. Most graduate studies have a list of requirements to accept candidates to their schools, including a minimum GPA, letter of recommendations, and a minimum GMAT or GRE test scores. Indeed, the majority of schools require a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be accepted to their programs, As a result, students who have low grades are less likely to gain admission to major or top ranked schools. On the other hand, schools that usually accept students with low grades they are most likely second- and third-tier institutions and a degree from them may not carry the same prestige as one from a first-rate universities. College scholarships are often tied up to grades, and students that fail to maintain a good GPA can lose scholarship money and even financial aid. Some states offer free or discounted tuition to students who maintain reasonably high grades. Although financial aid will allow students a grace period of a semester to bring up their grades, a lower grade can trigger financial issues and leave students scrambling for money to cover tuition. The most important effect of getting a bad GPA is the difficulty to get a job fresh-out of college. Nowadays, most employers that recruit recent graduates require a minimum GPA, especially if you are applying for technical openings. Certain employers may even favor recruiting recent graduates from certain programs or schools over others. Indeed, depending on the employer and for these type of candidates, GPA requirements may range anywhere between 2.8 and 3.5 or even higher. School names as well as the overall GPA give the employer a general idea and a warm fuzzy feeling on the intellectual…
My academics in high school were good I maintained a B or C average. My favorite class is science. I always did good in my science classes because I found the material to be easy to learn because it’s very interesting. I tried to take an AP course but I wasn't ready for it. I am a hard worker and when I find myself struggling in the class I ask for help from my teachers. Also all four years of high school I was lucky enough to be included in AVID program. In middle school I was also included in the AVID program, this I feel has helped me learn good study habits.…
In my first years of highschool I decided that working hard to get good grades was no longer my top priority, I didn't give work any thought when the school day ended. My GPA became very low after my sophomore year, and I soon realized I wouldn’t be able to make it into a college that I liked, let alone a college at all. So, I started pushing myself to be better and study harder than I ever have before so I could try to cover up the hole i dug for myself. That same year I decided to join the Track and field team, I ran the 100m, 200m and jumped for long and high jump! Although I wasn’t the fastest runner or the highest jumper Joining the track team with school has actually taught me a lot in the past few years. I learned discipline and how…
I have learn how to work hard and study by taking seven different advance placement class and six different honors classes, but I have also learned how to lead and communicate by being the President of the Band at Buchanan high school. I have been taught all the necessary subjects and I have passed those classes, but I have learned how to push myself intellectually and apply my knowledge in Mock Trial where I was an attorney for the Buchanan team. I have learned how to persevere by training for a Half-Marathon outside of school. If I only ever went to class my communication, leadership, and people skills would not be as developed. Being a section leader for the band and then the President of the band…
I would love the Admissions Office to notify about my GPA trend and my activities trend, as my activities keep growing from sophomore year to senior year, my free time became less, but my grade keeps growing and the course I had taken become even harder. With this explanation, I hope I can be standout to most of the…
I hope that this email finds you well and that you had a great holiday week/weekend. I am in the MAT Grad program and taking undergrad classes since they are required. I am writing to see if my GPA for my undergrad courses will in may way affect my MAT GPA? Since I am currently taking classes that do nothing other than take tests and are not related to my area in any way, I am not doing so well and it is not due to lack of trying as I spend countless hours working on this homework that I have no time for anything…
Academics has always been a top priority in my family. My father has pushed making good grades and studying hard since I was in kindergarten. As the years have progressed, the studying has become easier and I have no problem taking tests. College has proved to be a completely different situation. Some of my classes are challenging, but I know that I must endure this to achieve a sense of satisfaction. On my journey of pursuing academic excellence, I know that I must be prepared to work hard, study, and put forth my best effort.…
