Grand Octagon Resort DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (DBMS) is a computer software that will manage databases of the resort hotel. It will allow the user to store, update and retrieve data in a structured way. The DBMS will accept requests for data from the application program and instructs the operating system to transfer the appropriate data. When DBMS is used, information’s can be changed much more easily as the organization's information requirements change. Data can be added to the database without disruption to the existing system. The system was skillfully and carefully coded to seal any possible loopholes in the system.
The system was developed using Visual Basic 6.0 for applications (Microsoft Access) language. This system will indeed help the hotel management and the esteemed staff members to manage and steer the resort hotel’s functionality and transactions to realize its maximum potential. And add competence standards in the business industry.
II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
A. GENERAL Problem
Lack of maximizing the resorts full potential towards providing its services to clients due to use of the manual system.
B. SPECIFIC Problem
B.1) Difficulty in locating files: due to the large number of guests files, location of guests files during Check-in, updating of daily expenditures, receipt generation and Checking-out is extremely difficult for the resorts employees.
B.2) Large storage space
B.2.i. Organization of raw files or paper documents will soon rend the resorts storage to a “no space available” scenario. Thus omitting batch of files without prioritizing which of which will still be of use and which not or will not.
B.2.ii. The physical files occupy too much space of about a room or two that could have otherwise been used for income generation by the resort.
