Dear IGTC-12 Participant, On behalf of the ETN Board and the IGTC-12 Conference Advisory Board I am very pleased to welcome you to the 6th biennual International Gas Turbine Conference in Brussels. In the next two days, I hope that you will enjoy the opportunity to join policy makers and gas turbine specialists from the whole value chain to discuss the future energy policy, market and technical challenges which our industry will face. The keynote sessions will debate the medium and longer term outlook for the gas turbine industry. Distinguished speakers during these sessions include political delegates from the European Commission and the International Energy Agency, as well as high-level industry representatives and experts from the gas turbine research community.     An engine is a device which transforms one form of energy into another form. However, while transforming energy from one form to another form, the efficiency of conversion plays an important role. Normally, most of the engines convert thermal energy to mechanical work and therefore they are called ‘heat engines’. This vapour is later condensed to repeat the cycle. In all present day phase change cycles, energy addition to the working fluid occurs outside the device, where work is done. In most non-phase change cycles, energy addition occurs in the cylinder where work is done.…
