Gallagher’s Future To a MOOC

By examining Gallagher’s ability to set himself apart from everyone else and his creativity, it is clear that Gallagher best suits for a MOOC. Gallagher is a non-traditional person with his education, he has a unique way of studying, and also is very eager to learn while showing his sarcasm at the same time.

One reason Gallagher is a good candidate for a MOOC is his creativity. In “the involving from knits together educated, entertainment.” pg.17 Gallagher has a unique way of studying so he puts entertainment into his education. This way he can understand how is being learned.

Jenkins mentioned that online classes are a better choice, but not with all classes. Jenkins asks, "Can we agree that none of us would want to be operated on by surgeons who received all of their medical training online?” Online classes have their limits, but also have more conveniences. For example, Jenkins states that "For students who aren't able to attend college in the traditional way, "good enough", can be a godsend". They are less costly and the enrollment rate is higher than on-campus courses. Online courses seem to be the future according to Jenkins.…

Ever since Plato founded the school of Athens during the days of Ancient Greece, and students have been taught by a teacher face to face in a classroom. Now we live in a time where technology dominates the education landscape. Slowly we are phasing out the pencil and paper for iPads tablets. Now I’m a firm believer that computers and tablets have made school life so much easier, but one thing I believe that should stay the same is the classroom setting. Online classes to me are a terrible idea for many people. I think a hands on approach on learning is important because we learn new things with our eyes, hands, and other senses. Sometimes students are faced with problems in which a quick response is necessary in order to understand the subject or problem. I think asking via Email takes too long and sometimes it’s frustrating when you don’t get the correct response.…

I chose Gallagher because of what he wrote about in his essay, and I related what he wrote to The Year of the Moocs. I think Moocs are right for Gallagher because his essay stood out, Gallagher wrote a fantasy essay which is very risky and something no one else to do. Gallagher is different, like Moocs.…

Tutoring has been around for hundreds of years. It has come from tutoring one-on-one to tutoring in groups, peer groups and now even online at a distance. One of the first forms of tutoring, which is still used today, was conceived by a well-known educator by the name of Andrew Bell. This form of tutoring was referred to as "peer tutoring" which is a system of instruction in which learners help each other and learn (themselves) by teaching. Andrew Bell 's initial reasoning behind using peer tutoring was to give under privileged children the opportunity to learn. This method of tutoring has been used and is still being used today in schools and learning centers. It was designed to have the more advanced students to help the students who were challenged in the same area, to understand content better. This allowed for more students to continue to learn a subject and not keep a teacher or instructor from being able to progress further because of…

In today’s world it is an unspoken requirement that anybody who wishes to succeed must have a college degree. This means physically going to a college classroom or attending school online. Because of the sink or swim economy, it is not always possible to give up a job, or leave your family behind to go to a four year university full time. For those people, online schooling is the best option to obtain higher education. Online schooling is simple in some ways, in other ways it is more difficult, but overall it is incredibly beneficial.…
