I added a few sound effects to my promo to enhance it further. One effect I added was a firework explosion. I added this to the start of my promo and it made it more that little bit more thrilling. Secondly, I added an audience clapping sound effect. This made my promo more atmospheric, like the listeners are already at the festival. I thought this was a very effective sound effect, I added it twice.…

It made me excited for the presenters that they had such an attentive audience, and made the vibe of the entire conference that much more comforting. I was a little disappointed at how little some of the presenters explained their topics; they were only given 20 minutes, which might have had something to do with it, but it would have been helpful to outsiders to explain their topics in depth, so that you didn’t need to be a music graduate student to understand the papers. Overall, I would like to choose different topics to attend if I were to attend this again. One topic that stood out to me was Steven Moon’s Listening Elsewhere: Enacting Affective Exodus in Gay Azerbaijan and if I had gotten their earlier I would have loved to attend that presentation. One thing attending this conference has inspired me to do is to attend more lectures on music and sound studies if they are offered in the Twin Cities…

On Saturday March 8 I attended the rockabilly festival that took place in Pitzer College. This was a great experience because I had the opportunity to feel what it was like during the rock n roll times. I was invited to go through Mr. Molina in MECHA to help out with fundraising. I was there all day selling raffle tickets to people who attended the festival in order to raise money for the MECHA scholarship. Through this experience I had the chance to practice on my communication skills by persuading people to buy tickets.…

The first Kerrville Folk Festival was the best way to learn about different humanities. There were many people from all-over. The first festival was “held June 1 through 3, 1972, in the 1,200-seat Kerrville Municipal Auditorium; 2,800 fans from all over Texas and as far away as Colorado attended the thirteen-performer event” (Rod Kennedy, 2013) (para. 1). “The festivals at Kerrville were a direct outgrowth of the Austin Zilker Park KHFI–FM Summer Music festivals (1964–68), the Chequered Flag folk-music club on Lavaca Street in Austin (1967–70), and the eight Longhorn Jazz festivals (1966–73), as well as the "live" and recorded programs of Austin folk artists produced on KHFI–AM–FM–TV during the 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s” (Rod Kennedy, 2013) (para. 1). The festival kept expanding and more people were coming.…

When deciding on a music concert for this course, World Music 327, there were five different choices for me to choose from. It was required to attend a concert musical performance of world or ethnic music. The music selected for the purpose of the concert had to be from music I would not normally focus on or attend a performance in that particular style of music. It was definitely outside of the box or my comfort zone, which I am glad I attended. For me, I decided based on location due to the fact that I wanted to take my entire family for a nice day out, and enjoy some ethnic music that we have never experienced. With this in mind, and not knowing what I had in store for me, I decided to attend the concert on July 29, 2012 at La Jolla Cove to watch and observe Theo & the Zydeco Patrol. This concert was scheduled to play from 2 to 4 pm, but went till approximately 4:15pm, with an intermission at the middle of the concert at 3, that lasted 15 minutes. The concert was part of the 29th Annual Summer Concert Series 2012, and was named “La Jolla Concerts by the Sea”. All concerts for these particular series are free of charge to the public and are family oriented, due to the fact the location of the concert was right next to the beach and provided entertainment for the family. For this particular band this week’s concert was sponsored by Cymer, Incorporated.…
