Florida State University is more than just a world-class academic institution preparing you for a future career. We are a caring community of well-rounded individuals who embrace leadership, learning, service, and global awareness. With this in mind, which of these characteristics appeals most to you, and why?

The caring community that Florida State University portraits, is an environment I feel that I would fit into, and greatly contribute. As all four characteristics appeal to me, leadership and service are the greatest in my mind. The transition into adulthood in my recent life has come mainly from the position of leadership I have been given in my church. Aside from leadership, I serve my community and school through many service projects and events.

In December of 2014, my church was in need of a leader of worship for the Sunday morning services. Since my father is the senior pastor of the church, and I have a gift in music, I was given the position. At first, they gave me this with the intentions of it being short term, but as I matured and gained the respect of the people in the congregation, it has become more permanent. At first it was tough to manage the time between organizing rehearsals and everything else involved in being the worship leader, as well as school, but it has become much easier to manage over time. Aside from leadership in my church, I lead the chapel worship team at my school, am president of our honor choir, and organize the National Honors Society’s trips to our local Alzheimer’s center.

Service in the community is also a large part of my life. Many service opportunities come out of churches, which give me many chances to serve my community outside of school. Inside of the church, is serve to help and occasionally lead Sunday school for the youth. At church events, I have been nominated as the official popcorn maker, and have just recently become victim to the dreaded dunk tank. Through school, I am involved

“This is a diverse community that is Christ-centered, people-focused, student-oriented, quality-driven, and future-directed”. Out of the above Mission Statement, student-oriented sticks out the most to me. When I think of college I immediately think of learning, experiencing new things, maturing, getting involved, and making new and everlasting friendships. To do these things students need to be involved and support other students, to come together and encourage each other while we all learn to spread our wings and fly.…

Another reason I applied to UCF is "tradition". Ever since my family moved here from New York in 1995 I have witnessed firsthand the growth and transformation of UCF. Driving in the car down University Blvd with the gold and black banners hanging from the lampposts alerts you that you are entering the home of the Knights. From the alumni with their car flags to the students walking around the local malls in their UCF apparel, everyone is proud to be a "Knight". One of the biggest traditions at UCF is called the "Spirit Splash". This is a tradition that takes place during homecoming week and is one of the only times during the year that students, alumni, teachers, local residents and even pets can wade in the reflection pond on campus. Events like these "unite" a large university and make it seem like we all share something together.…

Everything that a person encounters, either physically or just by knowledge, shapes how that person behaves and respond to everyday situations. With that in mind, I can better understand myself and the people around me. These differences are what brings fresh and new interactions that colleges thrive on. Ranging from the schools I attended, the way I was raised, and even the neighborhood outside my doorstep brings different experiences for me. With these factors, I have no doubt that I would contribute to something beautiful to The Ohio State University.…

During my first year at Florida State University I plan to grow as an individual. To achieve this is not only important to fill in your head with loads of knowledge, but also to see other cultures, meet new people, discover myself, discover my weaker and/or stronger points, and squeeze my stronger abilities at my maximum to achieve my goals. I plan to help others as much as I’ve been doing until now, or even more. I believe in creating a better atmosphere where peers help each other in whatever they need. I’ve been lucky spent almost sixteen years of my life in a school where they taught me to excel by working as a team. I plan to bring these philosophy to FSU because if instead of competing with one another, we bring what we are best at to…

The college that I decided to research is called Florida International University or FIU for short. I feel like this college is appropriate for me because many of the amenities available fit my liking. The school has a very large campus and plenty of students to make new friends with, and is located in the heart of Florida. Florida’s weather is similar to Arizona’s, with the exception of humidity, making it feel just like home. There are many extracurricular activities at this college such as sororities and fraternities, a radio station, student council, and much more to keep me busy outside of my studies. This college also has a minimum GPA of 3.4 or greater, allowing me to be surrounded by students who value their education just as much as I do. I think FIU would be a great college for me to consider applying to because it has much of what I look for including size, location, academic and extracurricular programs.…

I was involved in many service learning experiences all throughout highschool. I was on National Honors Society and we would ring bells for Salvation Army and adopt children around Christmas time. We often volunteered at schools to help watch children, while parents were receiving help in finding careers or when they were being helped in some other manner. However, my favorite service learning that I was involved in was helping coach Special Olympics. This service learning is one of the reasons I am becoming a teacher, and one of the main reasons why my focus is Special Education. I coached my team in soccer, basketball, and track. I loved every minute of it. I spent more time with those kids than I have with any other service learning combined. I coached them starting my sophomore year all the way until I left for college. It was hard leaving my team and I am upset that I cannot go back and see them more often. Service learning has made a huge impact on my life and is something that everyone should become involved with. When you find that one cause that you are passionate about helping with it can transform your life like it did…
