From Immigrants To El Salvador: Personal Statement
When people are young, they are always told, “your childhood years are some of the best years of your life so enjoy them while you can.” Children typically spend their hours watching interactive shows and playing with toy, yet I have a very hazy memory of doing those things. Coming from a deprived, immigrant family did not permit me to have this joyful childhood experience, but instead led me to grow up faster than customary and shaped me into the person I am today. My parents immigrated to the United States from El Salvador before I was born, leaving behind 5 kids, the youngest nine months and oldest thirteen years of age. Leaving behind their children was one of my parents’ hardest choice, but they believed that in the future it would have the best outcome. My parents had lived a dirt-poor life in El Salvador due to the Civil War that was going on the in the 1980s. They came to the U.S. in hopes of giving their children a better life, they put their all into their jobs until eventually they could bring my siblings to the United States for the better life every child deserves. Knowing this did nothing but show me that anything is possible if you work hard and strive for only the best. Although they worked hard in …show more content…
Knowing that getting a good education for their kids was their first goal encouraged me to work hard in school. Every minute I have spent at Science Park High I have appreciated because I know it is an enormous privilege to get such an excellent education from many insightful teachers. This will also apply to college. Although my siblings all went to high school, they did not go to college and I saw it break each one of their hearts. This will inevitably push me to reach for nothing but greatness in college, to give it me 100 percent and nothing less no matter how hard it

At the age of seven, I escaped the poverty-stricken neighborhood of Paterson, New Jersey because my parents’ priority was their children’s education. So when we moved to Georgia, I was thankful to have a yard, house, even my own room, but each blessing has a curse. Each day I realized why my mother worked at subway, why my father worked at a warehouse, why my mother had to walk 3 ½ miles every day, to and from work, in hot and cold, why my father grew anxious at the sight of a police, why my family could barely travel anywhere, even Atlanta...they were illegal immigrants. Being an anchor baby, I appreciated all the efforts my parents made, like driving me to school early, tutoring, and providing me with their love and support. Years later with the stricter immigration laws, my father got laid when I was in 10th grade and we soon grew very tight on money. Thankful a year…

All humans no matter young or old, black or white have had some experience so profound that it changed them at the very core of who they were as a human and how they interacted with society from that point forward. My experience unlike most who live in a first world came in the forms of a backwater third world country known as el Salvador ,this small country raised my grandfather until the ripe age of 33 when he left for a better future in Canada, little did he know that his life would change when he met my grandmother and he'd end up raising children that weren't his own and creating a family all his own in the united states of America to many ,the land of opportunity.…

It’s easy to make a goal rather than to achieve it. However, with determination one can succeed in accomplishing it. I have accomplished one of many goals in my list and that's to attend college. In my family not a lot attended college or even finished high school, so accomplishing this goal is a big subject of matter to my family.Getting this far is even a big accomplishment in my eye’s, especially when you break free from an assembly line of generations that never had attended college. The feeling is still overwhelming, mainly because I’m the first of many generations in my family to accomplish something big like…

Salvadoran migration to the United States is small in comparison with other immigration waves of the past. The Salvadorans took flight from their country; it was a horrific result for El Salvador’s civil war, depleting the country of between 20 and 30 percent of its population. More than half between 500,000 and one million moved to the United States, which was home to over 10,000 Salvadorans before 1960. Salvadoran Americans many refugees from a supported United States government forced a rethinking of foreign policies. The result of the foreign policy change may have been the reason the war in El Salvador ended. Salvadoran Americans are dealing with an ongoing national debate concerning the United States responsibility toward El Salvadoran…

I was four years old when my family immigrated to the United States from Ukraine. It was a crazy experience and a big life change for all of us. There were many obstacles to be faced living a life completely far away from what we used to call home. It was very difficult to leave my grandparents back in Ukraine. They were a significant source of encouragement for me especially my grandfather. He was my hero. He was the main nurturer who provided a lot of encouragement and support for me in the very hard times of my life. In times of crisis when life felt like a crashing wave, he was the one I always ran to for guidance. Like most immigrants, we didn’t know any English, therefore it was extremely hard to communicate with anyone.…

The story of my family immigrating by boat to America started with my mom’s parents coming with her in 1966 when she was 3 years old… My mom’s name is Francesca Boncimino. My mom’s family came for a work related oppurtunity. When they first came they lived in none other than Brooklyn, NY. They came because they had heard great things about the U.S. They could’ve stayed in Italy but decided to come to America. The people that came from my moms side was her father (named gaspare), mother (named santina), and her. My Grandparents had to unfortunately leave my mother’s sister in Italy because my mom’s grandma wouldn’t let my grandma take her. When they arrived in America they felt confident and liked it immediately, they hadn’t expected what they saw. At the time, they thought it was a good idea. When they arrived, my grandma went to work in a factory and my grandpa went to work with an Import/Export industry. The reason they came here was not because of money problems or work issues like the immigrants in the 1800’s. The family that stayed behind felt really bad and missed my grandparents and my mom dearly. But every now and then they would write letters to each other seeing as how they couldn’t make international calls back then without spending a ton of money. Of course at times my grandparents would regret coming to America sometimes. In U.S, they made more money than they did in Italy and it was more productive but there was more familiarity in Italy.…
