How can overcoming adversity on and off the field brings a team closer to each other?

Adversity can come in many ways, it can be in how someone may not be good at a sport and they must overcome this adversity. Or it can be losing someone or something and having it replaced by something different. The Permian Panthers overcome many adversities throughout the book on and off the field this makes them stronger and closer both as a team and as friends.

One adversity that can relate both on and off the field is that the Permian Panthers in a time where blacks weren’t viewed as equals to whites. The team has to come together and play together as a whole both blacks and whites and also accept each other off the field no matter their differences. Also the team has to overcome what may have been their greatest adversity throughout the whole book of losing their starting running back, best player on the team and best running back in the state of Texas, Boobie Miles. Who in one of their first games of the season picked up a knee injury that would make it impossible for him to ever play the game again. They overcame this

If straight, white males make up around 20 percent of the population in America, how is it that they are the face of American television, on and off screen? Minorities, such as women and African Americans, are under-represented in media, especially television. They all come out to watch the game and cheer on the boys, but the real show they come to watch is the marching band. We play three great songs and put so many movements into out routine. I have chosen a movie that I have watched recently with fellow peers and teammates from Donovan Catholic High School. The title of this spectacular movie is “When the Game Stands Tall.” The significance of the title designates to the great coaching staff which reached into the hearts of the football players, not only making them outstanding, but making them grow into true men with heart, dedication, and compassion. Based on an extraordinary true story, this movie is about lessons and depicts some such as hard work pays off, play with pride, it is not about the streak but about the team, and it does not matter whether your stronger or faster, it matters if you play with heart! This movie is about De La Salle High School having the greatest winning streak in all of football history. With 151 wins and counting this team did not worry about anything but to continue the streak or be on the “Streak Team,” later on learning of what it actually took to carry on that special streak. This movie takes place in California, “The Golden State.” The setting is important because some of the best football teams reside in this state giving importance the entire movie. There is a book to this spectacular movie in which I have not read but plan to.…

The hit Netflix show that took everyone by storm over the years is, Friday Night Lights. The show is centered on a town in Texas where a local high school football team has captured the whole town in the midst of the playoff season. The Texas high school team star football team is called the Panthers; the show opens with a week before a huge game against a more than capable opponent. One of the first characters the viewers see is Tim Riggins, a football player that loves his booze a little too much when he shows up to practice still drunk, and that was not the first time. As the show progresses, Riggins is very rarely seen without a drink, which makes it clear, that he is an alcoholic. Tim Riggins was abounded as a child and his older brother, Billy become his guardian, then Riggins found that his father had been an alcoholic for an extended…

The perceptions of competence are held to be more fragile because competence is construed on the basis of what others have done or are doing and there is greater preoccupation with the adequacy of one’s ability (Duda and Hall, 2001, p 420). Youths who feel excessive pressure to win can perceive themselves as having poor abilities, feel unattached to their teams, and feel vulnerable in the presence of teammates (Cote, Deakin, and Fraser-Thomas, 2005). With respect to team unity, the heightened inter-individual comparison and rivalry among athletes undermine the sense that one is closely connected with others. The climate of the team should foster feelings of “belongingness” and promote the satisfaction of the need for relatedness (Duda, Reinboth, 2005, p…

This part of the story appeals to me because I can relate to Richie. I also play basketball and have felt this same way about a tournament many times. My plans, and dreams, are to go to college and possibly be a writer. I have been told I am an excellent writer if I put my mind to it. A lot of my friends and teammates think I am going to college just like Richie. I might not be going into the army but I do want to get away from all the questions and drama. I have always wanted to win, no matter what I am playing, or doing. I will always walk with my head held high, hopefully as a winner. This part in the story tells us about the main character, Richie Perry, and how he decided to go into the army.…

Being successful at anything in life, there are many factors that work together in order for achievement to be accomplished in the end. This is also true in life, there are a lot factors that come into play when it comes to team unity in regards to sports. A team can have all the talent in the world but if team unity does not exist, the talent is useless. A team must work as one unit, working to achieve a common goal. With that said it is safe to conclude that a team 's success or failure can ultimately be traced back to the unity amongst teammates and factors that contribute to propel that unity (Aghazadeh, Kyei, 2009).…

Suddenly, team members looked to me for huddles and rallies through hardship. Since the team consisted of a diverse range of differing personalities and cultures, it proved to be a challenging and difficult task. I believe that sports build character. They require heart, perseverance, physical and mental strength, and also trust. And if you lack any of these, practicing will develop them. You gain a special bond with your teammates, with wins and especially losses. After a loss you practice harder and concentrate more on perfecting your game. When someone plays with aggression and go all-out you look up to them. There are many situations in athletics where you have to make a quick and important decision and the consequences of that decision will affect the whole team. It is very important for teammates to trust each other. The best teams have many players working toward the same goal as one solid unit. In sports, you can be the underdog or the top dog. Either way you try to be the best you can be and beat your opponent.…

The way a football team bonds with each other over the summer and overnight camps is unbelievable. We don’t all hang out with each other on the weekends, but on Saturdays we are a family. If your team wants to be successful you have to trust that the 10 other players on the field will do their job each and every play. Unlike in most sports you need more than one great player on a team, in fact I’d rather have a team with a bunch of good players. Than have a team with just one or two amazing players.…
