On a spring day in 2011, what do you think of? Is it the flowers you planted or is it the birds as they chirped and created a melody? For me? It was a friday night. Now, you may ask, a friday night? What is so special about that? That night was one of the first times my heart set sail as my feet, one by one, stepped onto the softball field in Hallstead, Pennsylvania. I was in sixth grade, you know that grade that you start switching classes, being held more responsible, and were expected to be independent. Me? I was out to

It is remarkable to think how dairy products can make a difference in any and everyone’s body as one cow can produce 6 to 8 gallons of milk a day. During an activity or exercise, muscles become damaged and in need of replenishment. With the help of nutrients such as calcium, protein, and phosphorus, the job is able to be accomplished. Vitamins A, D, and B12 assist in ensuring your body is healthy and ready to go for whatever comes your way. Riboflavin helps absorb nutrients which in return, gives off energy which we all know is important to an athlete and their performance. As potassium keeps your blood pressure regulated, niacin helps in maintaining good levels in your body by removing the toxins. Now, dairy products do not only supply the nine essential nutrients, but electrolytes and carbohydrates. The electrolytes found in dairy products replaces those found in sports drinks. In a study published in the journal Applied Physiology, researchers found that those who drank milk after training were capable of exercising longer in their upcoming sessions over people who drank a sports drink of some type. Carbohydrates are key when striving for the maximum amount of energy, speed, stamina, concentration, and recovery. Without the fuel carbohydrates supply, daily mental and physical activities may not

Throughout time many athletic players drink sport drinks like gatorade or powerade but the question is when should we drink sport drinks or water. Your body needs water to maintain performance. Water is composed of two hydrogen and one oxygen atom. For your body to maintain athletic performance it must have oxygen in the muscles (which water contains). When exercising we burn carbohydrates. When we lose these carbohydrates they need to be replaced. There are many alternatives to replace carbohydrates such as water and sports drinks. Water has no carbohydrates unlike most sports drinks, however sports drinks contain sugar with makes more difficult for the carbohydrates to enter the bloodstream. The purpose of the essay is to tell when we should…

A shocked fact about milk for most people, as it turns out that consuming much milk is not good for people's health as they think. Milk has many beneficial components that make people drink it every day in order to be healthy. Vitamin D and calcium are the most known components on milk. When signing up to be an organ donor you usually think only your major organs will be used; however, something as small as a ligament of yours is used in popular surgeries such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions. When someone tears their ACL they usually have a choice to have an autograft, or use one of their own ligaments, but they can also choose to have an allograft, or take a cadaver’s ligament to repair it. Each has it’s advantages and disadvantages, but I personally think that the better option is the allograft because I think the advantages are better than using your own ligament from another part of your body. The advantages consist of faster operative time, less post-operative pain, and a faster recovery time.…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

I want you to take a look at you’re, any hand and ask your selves “Who’s hand is this?” Do the same with your other hand, and now both legs and your arms if you would like. If I am not mistaking the answer to all your questions are mine right. They are your hands, legs, and arms. What I am trying to get through to you all today is that your body is your body and that a person should be able to profit of his or her own body if done in a safe and controlled way.…
