Friendship is a sentimental bond between two people and this bond is broken by dishonesty. Honesty is important in friendship so that our friends believe that what we say. If we are known to be honest about all things then when we tell our friends something they believe you. If we are known to be dishonest for just once, none respect us. To be honest is to be truthful, reliable, and not lie all at the same time. It means you don’t lie, and you don’t deceive. It is a genuine, heartfelt act and a sign of integrity. If you are honest, you are willing to tell the truth even at a loss. Although “honesty” is known by many people, they don’t seem to understand its true meaning. Usually, people think honesty and truthfulness are the same. But when you are truthful, a person will tell the truth out of respect for themselves and others. A person who is honest doesn’t have to be asked to tell the truth. Honesty is a much more reliable feature, because it is difficult to be and maintain. Overall honesty strengthens your character and improves relationships with others. Honesty can be used in encouraging others and not criticizing them.…

The love for my friends has changed me to be a more honest person. I have learned that in order to create a solid friendship with someone, I need to be able to trust them completely. In order to build that trust, I need to feel that the other person is completely honest with me. One defining moment I remember where I first considered one of my friends to be a true friend was when we were sitting together in art class one afternoon. We were working away on a project where we had to paint self portraits of ourselves. I was ready to hand mine in, but I felt like there was something that I didn't like about it that I couldn't put my finger on. I asked my friend for her opinion, and she bluntly said, "You drew your eyes too close together, and your nose looks a little awkward." At first, I couldn't help but take that opinion personally. I sat there for a few minutes a little confused and hurt, but I realized that my friend didn't mean to hurt my feelings; she simply gave me her honest opinion. This has made me realize that it is important to not just tell your friends what they want to hear, but tell them the truth, even when the truth could hurt.…

One quote I highly disagree with is, “It is more shameful to distrust our friends than to be deceived by them.” You are not able to distrust your friends unless they deceive you. Definition of friends, in my dictionary, is to trust them with what one is telling them. If one do not trust someone, why would one need to befriend them? Also, if they are truly one’s friends, why would they try to deceive one?…

In life I believe that honesty is the best policy and the truth will set you free always. For some people being honest and forthright is a hard battle, and some people lie constantly and it is not a good trait to develop. Some people lie day in and day out and I know that the truth always comes out. No matter how much you try and hide it. There will always be a way that someone finds out. There comes a time where no one will believe in you anymore, the trust and respect will be gone. Once you start lying so much, people will have a hard time believing and trusting you. You can lose many friends that way, you can lose your reputation. If you are not honest with yourself, how can you be honest with other people? It all starts with you and how you portray you. You can’t get away with anything you lie about. Sometimes it happens where people don’t ever find out, but somehow they can.…

Along with enjoying each other’s company, friends should also trust one another. Sadly, many people are not comfortable sharing their sincere thoughts, feelings, and convictions with even their best friends because they fear gossip and rejection. Proverbs 16:28 warns us that, “a gossip separates close friends,” and this is shown to be true in our society. A person should also feel that they can trust their friend to give them godly advice and always tell them the truth. Often, when people are confronted about their sin, bad habits, etc., they become defensive and question whether or not truth is being told, but Proverbs 27:6 encourages that, “wounds from a friend can be trusted.”…

Honesty is the foundation upon which a person builds any relationship with his loved ones such as family or friends. By being honest to his loved ones, he will make them feel that they are trustworthy and closed enough for him to totally expose his true self. Thus, they are more assured that he values them and their relationship. The sweetness in the relationship, therefore, is more likely to remain.…
