In years past, the lack of diversity in backgrounds is a worrying trend, one that you feel requires some policy in order to correct. A larger cost for 15 of the students was a necessary evil to accomplish your goal for the free five slots. The full price being paid for the 15 may actually be less depending on just how effective they and the diverse students are at fundraising. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the historically privileged making some sacrifices for the good of the historically disenfranchised. While it would be amazing if we didn’t have to charge an extra $400 for the paid slots, money doesn’t grow on trees and the reality remains that amazing opportunities like this trip will come at a cost.
