Freak The Mighty Research Paper
Mighty, a movie by Peter Chelsom, is based off of the book, Freak the Mighty, by Rodman Philbrick, is a story that shows how friendship is important. Freak is a very smart kid, but has Morquio syndrome, which forces him to use crutches and he can’t walk. His bones aren’t growing but his organs are, so they eventually will become too big for him. Mighty (Max) is dyslexic, so he has trouble reading, but he is a very big kid, and is the largest in his grade. Mighty is a story about how friendship is very important because it can empower and strengthen you, people use fantasy to escape reality, and not letting your past hold you down.

Neither Freak nor Mighty have any friends before they meet each other. When they meet, they become best friends. Another example of how friendship empowers and strengthens you is how Freak teaches Mighty to read. This is important because Mighty was dyslexic, so it was very hard for him. Finally, Max had working legs and can walk. When they were at the carnival and were being chased by Blade and his friends, Mighty carried Freak on his shoulders and Freak told him where to go. Freak was the brains and Mighty was the body.
Allowing your past to hold you down. Mighty’s dad, ‘Killer Kane’, is a criminal. Kids at school would chant, “Killer Kane, Killer Kane, had a son who has no brain”. This would make Mighty angry because he didn’t want to be like his dad. Also, MIghty’s grandparents would think that Mighty was like his father. For example, at the carnival Blade and his friends had been chasing Might and Freak. Blade had gotten in trouble with the police and when the police came to Mighty’s house to take him home, the grandparents expected the worse. But the police had told them that Mighty was a hero. This shows how his past had held him back because his grandparents had assumed that he was in trouble.
Mighty is a story about friendship being important because it can empower and strengthen you, people use fantasy to escape reality, and that you shouldn’t let your past hold you

While these similarities show what these pieces have incommon Freak the Mighty and The Mighty still have differences that make them distinctive. Although the characters have the same names, I have got to say there appearance was definitely incorrect. In the book Max was said to be 7 feet tall, while Kevin was said to be 2 feet tall. In the movie Max was about 6 feet and Kevin was the height of an average 6th grader at Eldorado K-8 ( about 4”6’). Kevin was supposed to have blond hair and blue eyes ( the movie gave him brown eyes and brown hair) while Maxes appearance was not clear in the book. Additionally, in the book, Kevin and Max seemingly lived in suburbia while the movie gave the impression they lived in much more of a city. For example, the old testaments seemed much bigger and better-looking than described in the book ( broken toys and ragged and dirty children who seemed a little broken themselves). The minor problem in plot detail is a third difference. In the movie, Kevin is apparently Max’s LD…

There are many major differences and important similarities between the film, The Mghty, and the book, Freak the Mighty. One of the major differences between the book and the film is that in the film Freak dies in his sleep on christmas but in the book he dies in the hospital after having a stroke. One of the major and important similarities of the book is when Freak and Max are at the firework show and Freak keeps complaining that he can’t see. In both the book and the film Max reaches down without thinking and picks Freak on his shoulders so that he can see. The difference in the book occurs in chapter 24 when it states “ Now more nurses are coming out of the ICU.” it also states “ But what really happened was his heart just got too big…

The precipitated calcium carbonate is then filtered, dried, and weighed. The moles of calcium carbonate, CaCO3, are equal to the moles of Group 1 metal carbonate, M2CO3, added to the original solution. Dividing the mass of the unknown carbonate by the moles of calcium carbonate yields the formula weight, and thus the identity, of the Group 1 metal carbonate.…

Before Maxwell and Kevin became close friends, Max was known as an impulsive, violent, and unsafe individual because of his careless actions. Max had even said himself, “I had a way of saying things with my fists and my feet” confirming that he expressed his feelings quite physically. Nevertheless, when the boys became one as Freak the Mighty, it influenced the way Maxwell dealt with things. For example, he learned to control his temper and using his incredibly great speed and strength to protect his loved ones. In other words, he developed a skill to use his strengths rightfully. Furthermore, Freak constantly encouraged Maxwell to do well in his education. This helped Max overcome his negative mindset on how he was brainless and never attempted to try by using his Learning Disorder as an excuse.…

In Freak the Mighty friendship is demonstrated many times. Between Freak and Max they show a lot of friendship as the story develops. For example, when Max helps Freak see the fireworks by putting him on his shoulder, that shows friendship. Also, when Freak helps save Max from his father, it shows friendship. These are examples of friendship because if they werent friends that wouldnt care for eachother and help eachother in these ways. This is important to the story because if they werent friends the story would not be as interesting. Some examples of this would be, Freak and Max would not go on quests if they werent friends which would make the book less interesting. Also, when Freak dies the reader may not feel as much emotion because it…

Friendship “a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard” (Dictionary). From the definition that was found, it is clear that the two of them did not have that towards each other enough. In the novel, they clearly don’t have a good friendship because they don’t communicate with each other. As shown in the article, by Crépel, “Friendship: Shaping Ourselves,” a friend has an observable life in many details. I can see my friend in a wide range of situations and I have access to an individual who confides his emotions in me or at least reveals them to me. The information provided shows that they should have built a stronger bond with each other while talking. When they do talk, it’s usually about things that won’t build their friendship. For example, the conversation they had when the monster said that he will be with victor on his wedding day is a conversation that could have been avoided. Another area in which they experience a bad friendship is when the monster kills Victor’s family starting with young William and does not stop until Victor tries to stop or yet kill him. Their friendship struggled due to the abandonment of Victor and the things that could have brought them closer together drew them farther and farther away…
