Franklin D Roosevelt's Impact On Society

“Assuming the Presidency at the depth of the Great Depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt helped the American people regain faith in themselves. He brought hope as he promised prompt, vigorous action, and asserted in his Inaugural Address, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."” (whitehouse.gov). The president I chose to write about is Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd president of the United States. Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882 in Hyde Park, New York and died on April 12, 1945 in Warm Springs, Georgia.
He attended Groton School in 1896, entered Harvard University in 1900, and studied law at Columbia University, passing the bar exam in 1907. He married his fifth cousin Eleanor Roosevelt on March 17, 1905. In 1910, Roosevelt ran as a Democrat, and won the election. He then started opposing elements of Democrats, which made people angry, while his notoriety grew. In fact, when in 1914 Roosevelt tried to run for the Senate seat in New York, he lost due to the enemies made while he ran as a Democrat. He became president of the United States in 1933, and as today, he was the only president to be elected four times. “By March there were 13,000,000 unemployed, and almost every bank was closed.” (whitehouse.gov). Roosevelt, commander in chief, helped finding out ways for defeating Germany in Europe while Allied force went to fight back Japan. It was during this time that Roosevelt promoted the formation of the United Nations. After the war, the president was diagnosed with atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease and congestive hearth failure. But this didn’t prevent him from running for president again.
