Fox News Bias
Bias in the Media - Fox v.s. CBS

Fox News, officially known as Fox News Channel, is an American cable news channel, that is owned by Fox Entertainment Group, a branch of 21st Century Fox. The channel broadcasts primarily from studios at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, New York City, New York. It was founded by Rupert Murdoch on October 7th, 1996, who hired former Republican Party media consultant Roger Ailes as its founding CEO. Growing during the late 1990s and 2000s, Fox News has become one of the most dominant cable news networks in the country. Although Fox News has been accused of biased reporting and promoting the Republican Party, its employees have denied the bias in their news reportings. And as of February 2015, approximately 94,700,000

It then goes on to state that Trump “asserted the later hours were granted in order to boost Democratic early-voting turnout.” While the article “Nevada judge denies Trump campaign lawsuit over early voting” from CBS, talks about how the polls were kept open longer, due to the fact that there was an extensive line of voters, who had been waiting before the polls closed, and the Nevada Registrar wanted to give everyone who had been in the line a chance to vote. Although it also talks about the fact that it had been identified that about 150-300 people had entered the voting line after 8 p.m., which is when the stations should have closed. And went on to state that it was not clear if the polls were kept open “open to accommodate voters who were already in line” or if they were “open ‘til 10 o’clock at night so a certain group could vote.” In the Fox article, there was no mention of the fact that the polls were kept open to ensure that voters already in line were able to cast a ballot, as had been stated in the CBS article. It only talked about the fact that the polls were kept open later than they should have been, and was done so to ensure more democrats could vote. It had quotes from Trump stating that even with those extra Democratic …show more content…
For example, in Fox news, they reported an article from Trump’s side, he was portrayed as the victim, when in reality it was not certain why polls had been kept open longer. CBS reported both sides of this certain topic, but CBS is not excluded when bias is mentioned. CBS reports articles about Eric Trump’s “illegal ballot selfie”, and how Trump’s children were not able to vote in the primary either, due to the fact that they forgot to register. An article which was not reported on Fox. Although Fox reported about the fact that a man who was dying in Florida could not vote for Trump, because his signature did not match the one on the voting registration. It went on to state that this has been the cause of many votes not being counted, but this was not reported on CBS. Fox News reported around three articles in which people were not able to vote for Trump, none of which were mentioned on CBS. While CBS had multiple articles about Russia getting involved in the United States election. Fox not only did not mention anything about Russia, but tended to stay clear of any news about Putin. Fox news tends to report their articles from Trump’s point of view, while CBS tries to maintain an equal balance of views but tends to shift the blame to Trump. Fox goes on to describe Trump as a successful businessman and states that Hillary Clinton’s email investigation was “long overdue”. Both news sources displayed some kind

Another example of this media bias would be when Herman Cain was a republican candidate and news stations harassed him with allegations about him having mistresses and was unfaithful to his wife which later caused him to withdraw from the race but on the other hand no news station harassed Hilary about Bills long list of sexual harassment allegations or the fact she had lied about being under sniper…

In my opinion this article was written with bias-based and under the groupthink fallacy. This is a typical stance for the FOX network and their staff. The author is suggests that everyone in the country is upset by the president 's choice. There is certainly an agenda in this article. There is also an undertone of Nationalism within the article because of the condition of…

In “The Hostile Media Phenomenon” by Vallone, Ross, and Lepper there is a section dedicated to the perception of bias. They wrote about a study conducted about Pro-Israelis and Pro-Arabs and whether or not they perceived news segments as biased, and sure enough each side was blaming the other side for being biased against them (Vallone, 1985). Now I as an individual take the side of my Grandmother, one that acknowledges that there are biases among many media sources and that we all must be aware of it. But I don’t think it is a wise choice to ignore those with dissenting opinions. This brings me to another point made by Marie, she is a very compassionate person and is very sensitive to negative speech and rhetoric. She made her stance on media bias in my interview by saying “Yes, I think our media - MSNBC in liberal direction and FOX in conservative - are bias”. She also stated that there are very polarizing reporters in both sides of the media’s political spectrum such as Rachel Maddow being liberal and Glen Beck being…

Not only is the media biased in sports, but the bias seems to be more recognizable in politics. A rule of thumb, never debate religion and politics. Both topics will most likely end with some form of physical or verbal altercation. After working for the same company for the last decade, our breakrooms always show the Fox News channel. They seem to be bias with anything related to politics. No matter if the situation is good or bad, they always are in favor of Republican Party. The Democratic Party could find a way end world hunger and Fox News will be one of the first news channels to make mockery the Democratic Party for winning the battle of world hunger.…

“If Hillary Clinton were president then it wouldn’t have happened… She could have fixed this”. It was 4:00 pm, and I was watching CNN because I wanted to learn what the president was doing in office. I was shocked because CNN was turning everything into a way to get back at Trump for winning the election against Hillary Clinton. I switched the channel to Fox News and they were talking about the same thing except no remarks, only the information. This got me thinking about which news sources are bias. That's when I stumbled across the website Project Veritas, it talked about the bias and corruption in major news sources, that was the information I needed to see, and you do too, stay tuned because this undercover news could finally expose the…

Fox news is a highly criticized conservative news station and known for their ideals. CNN is more left sided and liberal which is the complete opposite when comparing the ideals for the two websites/new stations. When looking at the editorial approach they have to see what is going on currently, they chose the stories based on the importance, and ideals they will be able to reflect. Currently the elections are upcoming in November so Fox news who is conservative has a job of making the Republican Party look good, while CNN focuses on the Democratic Party and making them appeal to the society. The first thing that catches your eyes is the headlines. The headlines is what catches the reader’s attention, and the job for each editorial is to convince the readers of something. Some of the headlines for Fox are as follows: “The fallout over Hillary Clinton’s health concerns”, “Clinton email…

When Chris Wallace of Fox news began he led off with a bold statement of how the US government was accusing Russia of an invasion to the Ukraine. He interviewed the chairman of the house intelligence committee, Mike Rogers. On the contrary Chuck Todd interviewed John Kerry the Secretary of State. I noticed immediately the different levels of authority between the two sources. Chris Wallace solidified my theory when stating that John Kerry was not made available to Fox news but was to the other networks even though they were an hour apart. During the interviews the political bias was evident. Chris Wallace and Mike Rogers focused more on the history of President Obama and the ineffectiveness of his idle threats by continuously bringing up the so-called red line that was crossed in Syria and the use of chemical weapons. Meanwhile during the Chuck Todd and John Kerry…

In fact, the company has been more charitable to Senate’s Democrats than to Republicans. However, the donations of the Political Action Committee do not reflect the actions of the news channel itself. Therefore it can be said that this does not prove Fox News’ neutrality in a strong manner. Many also claim that Fox News has bias that influences the audience’s voting behavior and goes as far to misinform them (as numerous surveys convey). For example, a study has concluded that since the areas where Fox News aired showed increased support for the Republican Party during the years 1996-2000, it can be implied that there has been a shift in voting behavior due to the cable.…

Although media journalists claim to be impartial in their reporting, the media have a distinctly liberal bias. The journalists report; however, they taint the story with their own opinions, making it lean one way. A good example of this “selective” reporting is the war in Iraq. This bias reporting is not an accurate portrayal of a moderately sized group of Americans. Liberal reports downplay many conservative social values. On the other hand, some people say that a liberally-biased media are a good scapegoat for complaining conservatives. Others say that because large news stations are corporately owned, conservative viewpoints are scattered throughout media journalism today. However, neither of these efficiently explains why the media seem to lead toward a liberal opinion when feeding the public information.…

A study done by CASS (Contrast Analysis of Semantic Similarity) stated “by analyzing television transcripts from cable news from a 12-month period, we reveal significant differences in political bias between television channels (liberal to conservative: MSNBC, CNN, Fox News) and find expected differences between newscasters (Colmes, Hannity). Compared to existing measures of media bias, our measure has higher reliability. (Holtzman).” This study agrees with the others that Fox News is more conservative.
