Four Pillars Of National Honor Society

National Honor Society is based on four pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. I have already achieved the scholarship portion due to my hard work in the classroom and I believe that I would benefit NHS in each of three remaining pillars due to my willingness to work, ability to make good decisions and encourage others, and responsibility.
Service is defined as the action of helping or doing work for someone. Volunteer work is one aspect of service and a major part of every community. The four pillars of the National Honors Society are leadership, scholarship, character, and service. Character means overall being a good person: making good choices, staying true to one’s morals, and treating others with respect. Finally, service means…

A person of character is, someone to admire, who sets a good example, who knows the difference between right and wrong. To me no one is good or bad. This is a fact that should be kept in mind when we try to judge a person's overall character. We are all different and complex. I think I show most of the elements a person of good character should show. Not only have I been looked up to and admired, but I try to keep as active as possible (a quality younger students may look up to). Joining different sports, excelling in academics, and joining other extracurricular activities, gives me this opportunity and also demonstrates my reliability. Like a person with a good character I like to help anyone that is in need of a little guidance. I've always been known to make people laugh or feel better when they are down, which seems to me like a person with a great character, and want to better life's sometimes harsh obstacles.…

Honesty is one of the key factors to being a good leader. You must be honest towards everyone, and in everything that you do. If a leader wasn't honest, then no one would trust them. And if they weren't trustworthy then who would want to follow their lead? Leadership also requires that you have an optimistic attitude about everything. You have to take control, and look for the best in every situation. No one wants to follow someone who is always in a bad mood, and always looks for something to complain about.…
