Four Day School Week Research Paper
Education today faces many challenges. Whether a school is faced with tight budget constraints, or the problem of better engaging its students - schools are looking for ways to save money and interest the students. Recently, a proposal has been brought up that Peetz School, who currently hosts a five day school week, should start having a four day school week. There are great benefits about having a four day week, but there are more ways Peetz should keep their school week the same. The advantages of a four day school week are, parents can schedule appointments on the day off so their kids will not miss school. Families can have more time on weekend trips to spend together. Also, children's academic scores increase. Schools will save a lot of money on …show more content…
Now the first thought for me was that is was only fifteen minutes more than our regular school day, which I was fine with. Looking into it more though, little children are going to get restless and not pay attention to the teacher and won’t learn anything. Another problem with the longer school days is that there will be not a lot of time for extracurricular activities. This means that kids are going to get home late at night and still have homework on top of that. We can’t really remove extracurricular activities out of our lives either. These activities teach us teamwork, responsibility, competition, and diversity. Having a longer weekend kids are not going to be able to retain the knowledge they learned that week. Most children instead, are going to be watching television or hanging out with friends instead of thinking about school. Another concern about the longer weekend is that most kids are not going to be physically active. Which will cause more unhealthy habits. even if they are not playing video games, in a small town like this we are going to have to provide activities over the long weekend to give kids something to

If there is a busy schedule between both parents during the day, Fridays off for students will help parents work and not worry about their kids if their kids were to go to a family member's house or sleep over a friend's house. Parents will save money if students go to their family or friends house instead of the parents hiring a baby sitter. A four day school week may come in handy if you have the entire Friday off to schedule appointments with doctors or dentists. If there was a Friday a student was taken out of school to go to the dentist, but the dentist was packed, he would be late to go back to school. Four day school weeks may alter that a little, say on a normal Friday, that the dentist would be full of students, but if there was no school on Friday, then there would be any line to wait in, and no rush to get back to school before school is over. The other upside of having Fridays off is that parents can do errands with out interruptions. If students have Fridays off, they can go to a friend's house so that their parents can run errands without interruption. According to Jami Dow, a mother who moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota ( a district that has a four day school week) three years ago to be closer to her parents, said, "Many families use the extra day to schedule doctor and dentist…

were satisfied with their child’s school experiences (Shields 9). For over 100 years, most schools have adhered to a traditional summer vacation schedule which stemmed from our primitive technological resources and advancements. However, as technological growth was made schooling throughout the year became more practical and thus the concept of a year-round schedule was introduced. If four day weeks were introduced to schools, the students and schools will both benefit. The schools will save a significant amount of money and students will excel academically and behavior will improve drastically. Whenever we have a student/teacher holiday, less students are absent and behave because they are looking forward to less days of the week. When students have less days to worry about, it will make them work harder so they can finish of the week sooner.…

How does a 4-day school week benefit students? Many school districts in the US have started implementing 4-day school weeks into their schedules. The schools that have started doing 4-day school weeks say that their students have had better attendance and are more involved. Students also have more time on the weekends to do homework and projects. School districts believe a 4-day school week provides more opportunities than a 5-day week, because teachers have more time in the classroom with the students, and they have more time on weekends to plan and grade, plus students earn better grades.…

Many parents use summer activities as childcare while they are working. Such as summer camps. But when the students are out on break when these camps are not in session, parents would be forced to find other child care at a costly price (“Year Round Schools Pros and Cons”). Year round schooling could also interfere with these camps. So students would not be able to attend camps such as boy scouts, girl scouts, and enrichment camps that they may use in their future lives because they would be in school. Another problem is that parents and families reject the year-round schooling and the schools lose the cooperation of the families. Year round schooling also makes it difficult to plan summer vacations or even to find family time. The students must constantly be worrying about homework after school and also want to hang out with friends. This causes them to spend less and less time with their parents and siblings. This family time is very important for the student and the families health. Students need the support and guidance of their family to stay on the right track and do the right things. Lots of family time comes during summer break. When the students don’t have to worry about homework and can hang out with their friends during the day and then spend time with their families at night ("Year-Round School Pros and Cons."). If we take away this summer break students and family would not be spending enough quality family time together without missing school and this is not good for their well-being or their…

Some people say schools should have a four-day week for a variety of reasons. There are several good arguments for having a four-day week. One, is the students become more focused on school in a shorter amount of time. Another argument is that students have more time to rest their brain before going back to school. On the other hand, students can become more complacent about their school work if given more time.…

As grades go down teachers, parents and educators are wondering how to solve this problem. One answer they have come up with much research is year around school. However, the potential benefits of year-round school are very little and are outnumbered by the cons. The raising utility bill, scheduling complications and ironically no academic improvement are some of the many negative outcomes of year round school. True, year around school has a lot of benefits but with all the pros comes all the cons, and because of this year round schooling should be banned in all public schools.…

Education is the fundamental key to our everyday lives. Knowledge is what keeps our economic growth possible. We are all taught, since childhood, that learning is a way to empower one's self, which is why our school systems are an important part of our society. Recently, a debate has emerged as whether the year round calender is better for our students than our current ten month calender year. While three thousand other schools may have had their districts change their school systems to work year round, we must not do the same. A year round school system would do little more than frustrate us and our parents while costing the school board more. A year round system would limit our vacataions, our ability to hold summer jobs, and would put us…

As modern society advances at astonishing rates, it is a common occurrence that many mandated policies are rarely reviewed, and often become outdated. One of the best instances of this could be depicted by the modern school year. The school year was optimized for a different time, and as such, needs to be changed. The change to an all year school would allow for improved learning, greater knowledge, and an increased number of breaks throughout the school year. The need for change in the school calendar is very crucial, and be beneficial for multiple purposes.…

More time means a more flexible schedule for homework and assignments. Shorter school days, as short as 180/365, 0.493150685 long days or about half the typical hours a school day lasts. Imagine only having to go to school only 3 hours a day! The school year would be longer but the days would be super short. Plus, after school help could last longer for those who need it, and more time for students and teachers to focus on their personal lives, relieving stress for everyone. Ultimately, with all that extra time, students have more time to focus and study. In a year's total, it would give at least 540 more hours of free time, so there would be literally no excuse for late or missing work unless a student has super unique circumstances. information can be retained faster, save time for the teachers, and improve test grades for example my cousin lives in georgia and her year round schooling is going great she’s in the same grade as me and she is farther ahead of me. Less schools hours per day would mean less information that would have to be memorized per day. Miss days will have less effects on information. More ability to take time to do good work. Less have to review at one time. More time for tests review, and less…
